May 13, 2010
5:30 P.M. at CITY HALL
MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Chuck Rodgers LuAnne Engh
Mayor Olson Wally Hall
OTHERS PRESENT: Cathy Gabrian Matt Wheeler
• Public Input — None
• Updates -
a. Flag Poles — Chuck stated P & H Concrete will start installation on Monday.
The poles can be mounted five days after pouring the concrete.
b. Podium - The podium will not be done by Memorial Day but one will be
available for use at the ceremony.
c. Kiosk — LuAnne volunteered to paint the kiosk on Friday and will meet Matt to
pick out paint colors. She will also check with the school and Artcraft Printers
about laminating the sign. There was discussion about different ways to put the
word `Information" on the south end of the kiosk.
d. Rosselot plaque — Chuck said it is not finished but will be done by Memorial
Day. Butch needs the temperature to be above 65 degrees in order to use the
adhesive to attach the marble.
• Landscape at gathering area — Matt would like to wait until after the holiday to bring in
dirt to landscape, so there is no mud to deal with if it rains. Chuck suggested getting
donations for flowers. LuAnne suggested using decorative grasses that will not require as
much watering, once they are established. The mayor suggested inviting the American
Legion to the next meeting to get their thoughts on the project and also which flags they
would like to have.
• Street repair - The city crew will repair the pothole by the handicap area and fix some
others in the cemetery.
• Entrance gate columns & fence — Bids were received for refacing the two columns on
the south side and replacing the two columns on the north. Butch Bailey submitted a bid
of $12,000 with the city doing the removal. Sweeney Masonry's bid was for $8,622.
LuAnne suggested having Craig Whitley look at the fence /gate project and see if he has
any ideas and if he would be interested in putting in a bid. It was stated we do not want
to block the view of the cemetery by making a solid fence across the front. The curbing
in the front is in good shape. Wally said someone may want to donate a decorative gate
as was done in a cemetery in his home town. It was stated we need to let the public know
about the donation possibilities.

• Pump & pipe — The pump and housing units need to be checked to see what condition
they are in and if they will serve our needs in the future. The mayor said we need to size
our pump so we have the proper size and line capacity for a future sprinkler system.
With this information, we could determine how to proceed and if we need to replace the
pump and line to the cemetery. It was stated we have CIP funds appropriated for the
cemetery in FY 09 -10 that can be used. If they are not used before June 30 these funds
will go away and not be available unless they are appropriated in FY 10 -11. Matt was
asked to make contact with Roger Perkins and have him check the pump and report back
next Thursday.
• Other — Matt said the cemetery is in need of a new mower. The current one is 11 years
old and he would like to see one that is left at the cemetery. Matt had information on a
mower that would run approximately $6,500. Matt indicated the men at the cemetery
take very good care of all their equipment and the shop building.
The mayor said he would like the department heads to look at their budgets and
determine if they have the money to purchase an item and if so, then bring it forward.
The mayor suggested adding a section to the bottom of the agenda where ongoing items
can be placed so they are not lost or forgotten. Items to be placed under "Future
Meetings" will be expansion of the Veterans section to the north of Section J, imaging to
locate paupers graves, and fencing/pillars.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the cemetery.
The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Cathy Gabrian
