Friday May 21 City Hall Shelby The Legislature will convene in 8 months to face a threatening collection of revenue and finance issues connected to the deep national recession and what appears to be a slow moving economic recovery. The fiscal experts on the legislative staff are predicting that Montana will be looking at a budget deficit in the area of $400 - million. In this situation, all programs and expenditures will be on the table and subject to adjustment. The League must be prepared to defend the Entitlement Program and other state transfers, while continuing to promote fair land use and water quality regulations, health care solutions, affordable employee benefit and wage laws and other policies that are consistent with the interests of all the cities and towns across the state. The District meetings in the years before the Legislature meets have a very simple purpose. They are set up to give the members an opportunity to offer comments and suggestions that will be the foundation of the policies and positions the League will stand behind next winter. We encourage all League members to attend these meetings to assure that their opinions are known and their interests are represented. 22 *located on Belknap Avenue just off the 27 Street Exit on 1-90 L5 in)1 J 11' _.
