DOWNTOWN' LIGHTING DISTRICT: The Chamber of Commerce wishes to propose a
downtown lighting district of high pressure sodium lights on steel poles.
This new district will give Main Street and 1st Street more light at half
the energy input. The property owners share of the new district is approxi-
mately $6.80 per year per thousand square feet'. The old lights will be
removed by the Montana Power Company at no expense to the City. The City's
share of the cost is 25%. Chamber would like to get the feelings of the
Council about creating this district. Discussion. Consensus was to go
ahead with preparing petitions.
CLAIMS: Motion from Ervin Metzger, second from Duane Behm, to approve the
"January, 1981, Statement of Items Released for Payment." Carried.
SID 100: Curt McKenzie, City Engineer, says tests were run and were within
limits. Ne recommends payment of claims as follows: Claim #2851 to Berger,
Anderson, Sinclair & Murphy in the amount of $588.10; Barry O'Leary, Inc.
in the amount of $19,407.32 for claim #2852; and claim #2853 to Northern
Testing Laboratory in the amount of $316.00.
Motion from Albert Ehrlick, second from Duane Behm, to pay these
claims as recommended. Carried.
SOLID WASTE COMMITTEE: Letter received from Christian, Spring, Sielbach
& Associates indicating that they know of grants available to prepare a
feasibility study regarding the possibility of incinerating garbage, re-
covering, and selling either steam or electricity produced from the process.
Motion from Albert Ehrlick, second from Sue Carter, to authorize the
Mayor to contact Christian, Spring, Sielbach & Associates to discuss this
and to enter into an agreement for same if feasible and at no expense to
the City. Carried.

Duane Behm mentioned that his committee needs ene mere member.
The Mayor has someone in mind and will appoint someone soon.
There being no further business to come before the Council at this
time, the meeting was adjourned at 7:29 p.m.
