March 17 2010 Minutes
Vice President Lisa Brandt called the meeting to order at 12:00
Noon at Perkins Restaurant.
Roll call showed seven (7) members present: Dan Miller, Diana
Rogers, Jane Reger, Jean Carroll Thompson, Peggie Gaghen,
Lisa Brandt, Chip Home and two guests, John Brewer and
Mark Soueide from the Chamber of Commerce.
Executive Director Helen Johnson shared with the board the
correspondence she has received from groups wanting to
Adopt -A -Spot.
Dan Miller moved to approve the February minutes as e- mailed
and /or mailed. Motion was seconded and carried.
.-� Treasurer Jean Carroll Thompson gave the finandal report.
She stated that the accounts are up to date and in order. She
stated the salary for Helen showed January and February on
the payroll expense. Dan moved to accept the report, Diane
seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Old Business:
Dan stated that the magnetic signs that were placed on his van
to get the word out about the "cleanup" were seen by a very
large crowd attending the St Patrick's Day Parade.
New Business:
John Brewer and Mark Soueide from the Chamber of
Commerce shared their vision to improve the trails system here
in Billings for bicyclist and pedestrians to enjoy the outdoors.
Their first initiative is to connect the trails around Billings (30
mile loop) and the second initiative is the improvement of
Swords Park. They are proposing to have an Adopt -A -Trail
program to keep it clean and safe for those who use the trails.
John stated at this time they have an 80 person committee
working on this project. The Chamber would like to work with
Bright n' Beautiful regarding the Adopt the Spot/Trail program.
John and Mark will report back with any new information. The
board was very enthusiastic about working with the Chamber.
Helen shared with the board that the Zoo Day was the same
day as the Great American Cleanup. The board derided not to
participate this year.
Lisa shared information regarding bench ads and bus ads to
get our mission advertised. Dan stated that if we start paying
for advertising we could lose the advertising that we are now
receiving for free. It was mentioned to contact Yellowstone
Valley Women's magazine and the Out post for
advertising /articles.
Helen stated she will have a table set up with information in the
parking lot of Good Earth on Earth Day from 10:00 -3:00 pm.
Helen and Lisa will hang up the banners this week for the
Cleanup. Lisa and Peggie took posters to place in businesses
to advertise the Great American Cleanup on the 24'".
Meeting adjourned at 1:05 p.m.
