5:30 P.M. at CITY HALL
MEMBERS PRESENT: Norm Stamper, Chairman Chuck Rodgers
Dick Fritzler Wally Hall
LuAnne Engh Mayor Olson
Lee Barndt
OTHERS PRESENT: Kurt Markegard Matt Wheeler
Cathy Gabrian Hank Guerrero
• Public Input — Hank Guerrero of P &H Concrete gave an update on the Veterans
gathering area. He is ready to pour concrete and stated there will only be one handicap
entrance on the south side, due to the grade. Landscape and fill will be used around areas
where the sidewalk will stick out. Hank passed out information on flag pole placement
and installation, a raised concrete base, mow strip curbing and concrete benches.
• Flag Poles for Veterans Gathering Area — Bids were received for the flag poles from
Western Flag & Banner Co. and Dupree Building Specialties of Montana. There was
discussion about wall thickness, height of poles and installation.
Motion by Dick, seconded by Mayor Olson to accept the bid from Dupree Building
Specialties in the amount of $2,750.00 for two 20' and one 25'poles with a 0.125" wall
thickness. Motion carried.
Hank presented the committee with his drawing of the flag pole area with a mow strip
and planters. Mayor Olson felt we should get quotes from two people. Chuck will ask
for another bid. Hank was asked to submit a bid also for installation only of the flag
poles for the purpose of comparison. Wally asked about lighting the flag poles and
suggested that we lay conduit before the cement is poured. Kurt suggested a larger size
so it can also be used for running irrigation pipe in the future. Hank was asked to do this
before pouring the concrete.
• Benches for Gathering Area — Kurt said we need to make sure that any benches used in
a public place meet the specifications of ASTM. These standards determine design
criteria, load strength, rolled edges, etc. Kurt asked Hank if he has a stamped set of plans
for his benches, by an engineer and Hank said he does not. It was stated concrete
benches need to be cleaned and sealed annually. Hank suggested the committee look at
vinyl benches over concrete. Norm asked the committee to look at benches and bring
ideas to the next meeting. We will not have benches in place before Memorial Day. We
will use this opportunity to see how the space can be utilized with chair placement, before
we actually install benches.

• Accepting Donations for the Cemetery — Norm suggested setting up a separate fund for
donations. It is felt that people would like to donate in memory of a loved one but we
have not had a plan to allow for donations.
• Article in Newspaper — Norm will speak with the Outlook to see if they would write an
article on the cemetery. This would get the word out about what we are doing in the
Veterans area, mention the opportunity for donations or memorials and explain our new
regulations.
• Kiosk Information — The kiosk is ready to be moved and placement was discussed.
Chuck had met with someone who is very knowledgeable about cemeteries. She felt it
should be placed near the street on the shop side, where we had originally talked of
placing it.
Motion by Wally, seconded by Chuck to place the kiosk on the shop side and leave the
final placement up to Kurt. Motion carried.
• Other — Cathy stated we ran an ad three times in the Laurel Outlook, giving notice to
clean the cemetery and remove the shepherd hooks. People have been upset but after
discussion, it is the consensus of the committee to continue to enforce the removal of all
metal hooks and sculptures that have evolved over the years.
The next meeting will be held on April 22 The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Cathy abrian
