EMERGENCY SERVICES COMMITTEE

The meeting started at 5:34 p.m. in the city council chambers.
Derek presented an update of the progress on the Fire District Consolidation Plan. Derek handed
out a sample of an interlocal agreement that was made between West Yellowstone and the
Hebgen Lake Fire District. He is presently working with the city attorney and county attorney to
write a similar agreement for our fire districts. Hopefully, it will be done by the next meeting.
Gene asked if the city commissioners had approved of this fire district plan. Derek responded
that we have talked with them and they are fine if the public gives approval of the plan.
The group then discussed ways to get out public notice so the most people would know about
what is happening and when public meetings will be held. Some suggestions were: Laurel
Outlook, Billings Gazette, Channel 9, and Outrider advertisement flyers.
Citizens on Buffalo Trail may petition to join fire district because the Molt Fire Department does
not have structure fire ability. They think it may be able to reduce their fire insurance costs, but
between probably increase in taxes and reduced insurance it will most likely be a wash.
Derek will continue process and inform by email when sample draft is complete. He will email
it to the committee and fire district reps so we have time to look it over before the next meeting.
