Norm Stamper, Chairman Chuck Rodgers Dick Fritzler Wally Hall LuAnne Engh Mayor Olson Bill Sheridan Cathy Gabrian Kurt Markegard Matt Wheeler Dick Metzger Bob Saxbury Max Long Richard Klose Howard Guenthner Hank Guerrero • Gathering Area in Veteran Section - Norm said this is an informational meeting to discuss the gathering area. He welcomed the members from the VFW who were in attendance. He referred this to Chuck Rodgers who has been working on it. Chuck said we received a plan from CTA Architects' but we cannot afford it. He introduced Hank Guerrero, owner of P&H Concrete. Chuck contacted Hank to see what ideas he has to make this more affordable and get the project moving. Hank presented Plan-A stating it has ten foot control joints with saw cuts every five feet. It will have decorative concrete leading out to the sidewalks. The podium will be lifted six inches and the walkway in the center will be handicap accessible. The eye will have joints to follow the walkway and the concrete could be colored and/or stamped. Plan-A would allow seating for approximately 50 with wider walkways. Chuck's drawing would allow seating for 100 with four rows of benches and narrower walkways. There was discussion about the benches. Norm said we want to get a contract in place to start the flat work and the benches can be added later. Hank will bring back information on the benches he makes, the cost and the colors available for the concrete. It was stated that once the flatwork is done, we may be able to get a better idea of how we want the benches placed and how many to use. It was suggested that we get the information out to the public so we can accept memorials to help fund this project. Howard Guenthner stated the VFW will be meeting later in March and they may be interested in donating towards this project. Hank stated Option-1 is 1,646 square feet and would run $5,349.00. Option-2 is 1,571 square feet and would run $5,103.00. There was discussion about the plan and it was agreed that we would not want to narrow up the design. Option-1 would allow room for people to stand behind the rows of benches. Hank said the `eye design' is what put it over $5,000.00 and if this was poured the same as the rest of the area, it would reduce the cost. There was discussion about the City's purchasing policy and a copy was reviewed. Chuck and Hank were going to visit with Schessler's to see if they would be willing to donate a portion of the concrete for the project, which would lower the cost. The flagpoles were discussed and many liked the white fiberglass one in Veteran's Park. Information will be brought to the committee on cost and where this one was purchased. It was Cemetery Commission Meeting February 25, 2010 Page 2 stated the flatwork can be done and a hole will be left open so when poles are chosen, they can be installed according to the manufacturer's specifications for that pole. • Other - The question was asked if we are going to clean up the cemetery according to our new regulations. Cathy stated she will put a notice in the Laurel Outlook and run it several times. Norm would like to go forward with this item and get it on the council workshop. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 4th at 5:30 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, 64z:??l x Cathy Gabrian
