EMERGENCY SERVICES COMMITTEE
FEBRUARY 22, 2010 5:30 P.M.

Laurel Fire-EMS Authority
Derek had invited members from the fire districts to attend the Emergency Services meeting. He
gave each one a hand out that showed considerations regarding the department's future. He
stated the next direction to take is to form a consolidated district. The hand out included a
review of the current financial situation of the city and fire districts and the approximate
financial values for a consolidated district. He said the next physical step is a resolution of intent
from the council and districts. A board of directors would be constituted of members from the
city and each fire district and the urban fire service area. They would meet to conduct business
of the Authority. There would be little change seen in the operation of the department and the
districts would be affected very little. The change would be in the management and
administration of the department in the form of budgets and monthly oversight meetings.
Those that attended the meeting from the fire districts were asked if they saw favorable response
from the districts. They each responded that it should be moved forward and felt services to the
districts would only get better. They recommended that Derek continue working to form a Laurel
Fire-EMS Authority. It was suggested a public meeting be held for the city and fire districts to
attend. Also there will be regular meetings continued with the EMS Committee each month.
Those representing the fire districts would be contacted each month with the date and time of the
meeting.
