CITY HALL MEMBERS PRESENT: Chuck Rodgers Mayor Olson Dick Fritzler OTHERS PRESENT: Cathy Gabrian Howard Guenthner Paul Kroll Dick Metzger Max Long Kurt Markegard (6:15 p.m.) Chuck Rodgers called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. There was no quorum so the meeting was for informational purposes only. • Public Input: No comments. Straightening of grave markers in the veteran's sections: Chuck reviewed the bid from Brookstone Monument for straightening, re-pouring and cutting tree roots of various stones in the Veteran sections. The veterans were glad to see the trees removed in Section K and said it looks much better. Two other trees will be removed in Section J when the PWD has time. 0 Gathering place in veteran section: Chuck presented two preliminary designs for a gathering place in Veterans' Section J. Discussion followed regarding benches, landscaping and the design's effect on burial plots. It is estimated that it will take approximately 20 yards of concrete at a cost of about $1600.00. We would have to find a local contractor for installation. The veterans stated the drilled flower holes look good by the veterans' stones. Chuck showed an example of a vase he made out of a plastic pop bottle, cut to 6" and can be filled with sand to hold flowers. The veterans said they put out about 500 flags on Memorial Day. Howard Guenthner said the American Legion has not had a project for some time and they may be interested in helping to purchase benches for the gathering place. Mayor Olson expressed his concern that the Cemetery Board work with the Master Plan. He feels we need to have an engineer look at our plan and make sure we cover all accepted practices and requirements. We can either go back to Interstate Engineering or possibly have Great West Engineering do it. Kurt said the Master Plan is a document that can be amended and added to as needed. He would like to see it amended and go to council for their approval. Chuck stated he and Bill Sheridan went to Rockvale Cemetery and visited with Bill Williams regarding their sprinkler system. He would like to see a task force look into their system and see if it would be feasible for our cemetery. • Plaque for Rosselot family: The City of Laurel agreed to purchase and install a plaque honoring Dr. R.J. Rosselot and family. Chuck said the plaque would be made of bronze and installed on a column made of the same stone as the fence columns in the new cemetery. The column would be installed on the south side of the fence, by the gate on Airport Road that runs through the cemetery. A suggestion was made to reword the information on the plaque for clarification. Chuck will speak with the Rosselot family. Mayor Olson suggested getting bids on different sizes for the bronze plaque. Mayor Olson said the city will have millings from several projects this year but there have been many requests for these millings. We do not want to dedicate more than what we will have available. He suggested that we officially document the request for millings and then the PWD will decide what projects will get them and how they will be used. • Opening of remaining two rows in Catholic Section Q: It was stated that the east section of the Catholic Cemetery only has four rows in it. The map actually shows six rows with a road around it. We would like to plot these two additional rows and make them available for sale. This would make the sections symmetrical and if we could get millings, the road on the east could be installed. Chuck will add this road to the document request for millings. The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, 1 - Cathy Gabrian
