AN ORDINANCE REGULATING MUSIC IN ANY LICENSED PREMISES IN
WHICH LIQUOR IS SERVED. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF LAUREL, MONTANA:
Section 1; That whereas, the peace and quiet, good
health and public welfare of the residents of the City of
Laurel, requires the regulating of music in the licensed
premises wherein liquor is sold within the said City, the
same necessitating control by the City of Laurel.
Section Z: It shall be unlawful for any owner, opera-
tor, or manager of any premises licensed to sell liquor with-
in the City of Laurel to engage, authorize, or permit any
person, persons, or organization to play or make any musi-
cal sounds or endeavors within such premises.
Section 3: For the purpose of this ordinance, the term
"premises licensed to sell liquor" includes only those prem-
ises wherein alcoholic beverages are consumed upon the prem-
ises and does not include fraternal or non-profit organiza-
tions; and furthermore, for the purpose of this act, "musical
sounds or endeavors" shall include all singing, or vocal
endeavors, and the playing of any instrument commonly known
and referred to as a musical instrument; it is the intention
of this act to regulate "live" music only and it is not the
intention to regulate recorded music.
Section 4: Any person, organization or corporation vio-
lating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty
of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined
in the sum of not less than five (5) nor more thanthree hundred
(300) dollars or shall be subject to imprisonment not exceed-
ing ninety (90) days or both such fine and imprisonment.

Section ,: An urgency and emergency for this ordinance is hereby
declared to, and does exist, and the sane shall take effect and be in
force from and after its passage.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Laurel, Montana., and
approved by the Mayor this lath day of December, 1956.
