HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 545.: 0 0- ORDINANCE NO. 545 .BEING AN ORDINANCE DIRECTING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF LAUREL TO DISPOSE OF LOST AND UNCLAIMED ARTICLES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAUREL, MONTANA: Section 1. It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police of the City of Laurel, to dispose of any lost or unclaimed articles that come into possession of the Police Department of the City of Laurel, after the same has been held for at least thirty (30) days, in a manner hereinafter prescribed. Section 2. That when, at the discretion of the Chief of Police of the City of Laurel, there shall be an accumulation of lost and unclaimed articles, sufficient to justify a public sale thereof, the Chief of Police shall give notice, either by publication, or by posting, which- ever at his discretion will give the best public notice; said notice to be either published at least for one week or posted in three (3) public places, in the City of Laurel, for one week, listing the articles to be sold and the time and place for the sale, at which time and place the Chief of Police shall hold a public auction thereof and sell each article to the highest bidder, for cash. Section 3. The owner of any lost or unclaimed article may recover the same at any time from the Chief of Police prior to the actual sale thereof by proper identification of said article and by the paying of the sum of One Dollar ($1, 00), if the recovery be after the publication or post- ing of the notice. Section 4. All sums of money received under the terms of this Ordinance shall be deposited in the Police Fund of the City of Laurel. An emergency and urgency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage. THOMAS L.
