Meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m. Res ctful s mitted, Lon Kellogg, C airman al 1"'t IT?3 Iir. _onnie I.ellogg Chairman, Se?,er Committee, Laurel, Montana. Subject: Installation of Selzer Main to serve Lots h through 15, 1 athis Subdivision. Dear I'r. Kellogg,, In order to provide sewer service to the above mentioned lots and sub- di?rision, the city sewer woulc have to be extenC?ed., from t :e manhole locate-. by the alley between I+th. and 5th. avenues on thirteenth street. The cost of this extension is to be paid by uyself as agrees: to in the pettition of annexation to the city. iI?e se,.:er will be installed in comy)liaike with city engineering areci- fications. Butt I art requesting a variance to those specifications relatLn- to the disposition of excavated material and the type of back- fill to be used.. The reasons and justification of this variance are as follo?rs: The street is now only paved in the center traffic area. The side of the road where the sewer will be installed is.unpavedf and in the area of the street that does not carry any traffic. 2. There is. no near future ;aossibil_ity of a street paving S.I.7). in this area of thirteenth street because only one side of the street is in the city. a. Excavation witnessed in adjacent areas shows that below grade materials are mostly sand and, gravely which would pro ode a very adequate back-fill materials, for an area that is presently in an unfinished (unpaved) condition. .The new sewer installed in recent year in Murray Heights Sub- was back-filled with this same type of materials and at the time of that sewer installation, that street was also unpaved$ and presently shows no ill effects from back-filling with that type of material. 4. In requesting for a variance on the back-fill material" I am not requesting a variance for the bed for the sewer line or or the top of the trench which would be compacted road material. In addition, that area of the roar, on 4th. avenue crossed by the new sewer line would be to city specifications and would be compacted road material from bottom to to_ of the trench. 5. r-ret7iouS discussion with th,, engineering and sewer departments personnel confirmes, and anrrove- of the above request as com- pletely adequated and sufficient. These discussions were con- sidered when property was purchased to determine cost of improve- ments when lots wore brouht into the city. A'c1 e .ria'nce re?uewt, e,' y '..'al_1 -ezxr-e r
