PARK COMMITTEE
JULY 15, 1993

ATTENDING: Gay Easton, Lonnie Kellogg, Ron Faught, Emelie
Eaton, Donna Kilpatrick, chairman
Others: Dave Michael, Melanie Hayward, Ken Tolliver
A special park meeting was held to hear proposals by Ken
Tolliver, a part owner in the Alder Ridge trailer court
subdivision, to improve the dedicated park which lies to
the north of the subdivision.
He would like to install a "slow speed" road over the ditch
leading to the park area and provide a play ground in one
area of the park and a small playing field with backstop in
another portion of the park. In time he would like to
install an R. V. parking lot in the left side of the park.
The committee said development is welcomed although there
is no funds available from the city for this type of
project and that any work he does. must be approved by the
city engineer.
They have provided a playground in the center of the park
utilizing 6 trailer spaces; however when those lots are
needed, the playground will have to go.
We will check with Commissioner Bill Kennedy Friday when he
visits Laurel to see if the county would agree to providing
a portion of the gravel pit to enlarge the park.
We will need to check out the legality/liability of some of
the ideas Tolliver has such as changing the slope on the
ditch and the posssiblity of leasing the park to him for
the use of the RV parking lot. No action was taken on anay
of the proposals and Tolliver agreed to check with the city
before any work was started.
Emelie Eaton moved, Gay seconded that we allow the Chamber
of Commerce to have a petting zoo on July 30 in Firemen's
Park. Motion carried.
