HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark Committee Minutes 08.12.1993PARK COMMITTEE
AUG. 12, 1993
ATTENDING: Lonnie Kellogg, Emelie Eaton, Gay Easton, Donna
Kilpatrick, chairman;
Others: Jody Carlson, Dave Michael
Lonnie moved, Gay seconded that we refund $12 to Jody
Carlson who's two children were unable to finish 5 swimming
lessons because of weather-related cancellation of the
lessons. Motion carried. Similar refund requests may be
made until Oct. 1, 1993.
The pool was closed today for the season when the main
water line broke and flooded the pump room. The decision to
close the pool was made because the needed repair time
would be about the same as when the pool would close for
the season anyhow.
Emelie moved, Gay seconded that we allow the U.S. Forest
Service to use the picnic tables in the area north of
Athletic Field to serve Smokey, the Bear's 50th birthday
cake during the Herbstfest, Sept. 25 and 26. Motion carried.
The committee recommends that a letter be sent from the
City of Laurel to the First Baptist Church who has set up a
soccer field in Murray Park. A complaint was received from
a resident in the area because the church was using a
mixture of paint and diesel fuel to mark the lines for the
field and the odor was offensive. The church has never
approached the park committee or city concerning having the
soccer field in the park.
Vandals have painted "cripts are here" on the concession
stand (in Thomson Park) in black lettering. The committee
recommends painting the message out before more messages
are added.
Respectively submitted,
Donna G. Kilpatrick, chairman
