Members of the Laurel Garden Club requested the
watering of the hedge in Fireman's Park be done with the
portable pipes. The watering system/spickets were placed
too close to the hedge and are ineffective. The city agreed
to move the spickets out about 2-3 feet but has not had the
time to do that.
This also applies to the flower garden on the hill in
Fireman's Park. Gay said he would look at the broken
portion of that watering system.
The group reported 5 new shrubs have been planted in
Fireman's Park and all the trees have been pruned
professionally with the club financing the project. The
committee thanked the flower garden members for all the
work they do in that park.
Transients are a problem. They leave a dirty mess in
their trail and have constructed a fireplace on the
southside of the hedge. We will notify railroad authorities
of the possible fire danger when the grass dries in that
area.
We will refer the watering problem to the city crews.
Members of the group also requested that because the
funds earned at the two plant sales they have each year in
the shelter goes back into either Thomson or Fireman's
Parks that they be exempt from paying the $10 reservation
fee for the shelter. The request was taken under advisement.
JoAnn Fox, representing The Laurel Women in Business
Inc., requested the of Fireman's Park on Friday, Aug. 26
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for An Awesome August Adventure, an
fudn event for children of all ages.
Included will be crafts, entertainment, contests, etc.

Gay moved, Ron seconded that we allow the use of
Fireman's Park for the AAA event on Friday, Aug. 26.
Motion carried.
Gay reported a request had been received for lap
swimming at the pool. However, a time problem exists until
after the swimming lesson season when something may be able
to be worked out.
Respectively submitted,
Donna G. Kilpatrick,
chairman
