Park Committee
Aug. 25, 1994
5 p.m. -5:30 P.M.
Attending: Dave Michael, Jim Flisrand, Gay Easton,
Donna Kilpatrick, chairman
others: Mark Mace, Laurel Little League.
Mark attended the meeting to show plans for underground watering in
the McGillen Field in Thomson Park. Gay moved, Jim seconded that we
allow the system to be installed at the LL expense and with volunteer labor.
Motion carried.
A request has been received from Jane Barnes for use of Murray Park
for soccer. The Christian School also uses the field and Jane said she will
meet with the school officials and work out a schedule for practices. The
committee saw no problem with that arrangement.
We will set a day to meet with Steve Aronson of the American Legion
. Baseball group to plan a barrier that will keep water from flowing off the
field into the concession stand. Hopefully the same barrier can be used as a
base for a canopy the group would like to install over the bleacher area.
Concerns include the graffiti on the new concession stand and the
watering problem at Fireman's and Thomson Parks.
Attached is a copy of suggested improvements/needs for the
swimming pool for next year.
Res actively submi d,
Donna Kilpatrick

PARK COMMITTEE
THURSDAY, AUG. 25
5 P.M.
CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS
Pool Report:
Apply for a RSVP person to sell tickets. Guards would
still rotate (each 20 minutes) and would handle the
dispersing of bags to swimmers.
Would like to see the bag system replaced. Metal
lockers are used in Billings.
Need a new phone. Phone is a service for swimmers to
call home if needed and for emergencies.
Free passes need to be addressed Had 6 all year--three
of those were in the same family.
Would like three more benches --in the baby pool.
Would like to see plastic water bottles allowed in the pool
area also the water fountain in the baby pool area does not
work. The baby pool needs a pool surface replacement.
Check on a fiberglass liner perhaps. It is rough--hard on
little feet and the chipped cement is going into the drain.
It does not drain well.
Place an early ad in the paper for lifeguards probably
in Jan. New and uncertified lifeguards need to enroll in
the sessions offered at RMC. Then when they present their
completed requirements and are a certified guard and maybe
even working a month, we will reimburse them for the cost
of the class. Included in this training should be CPR and
first aid classes too even for those guards who must
recertify.
15 guards are ideal. We limped along with 6 to 9 this
year. I would like to see a policy (if we have enough
guards that is) stating that if they get another job, they
can not work at the pool. We were so short this year, we
had to put up with other jobs, etc.
Filters are in need of replacing. One of the filter
sacks is broken and debris was backwashed into the pool.
Had a problem with cloudy water and this could have helped
to cause the cloudiness.
Candy machine is not needed another year. Automated
Vending Service 252-9272. Pop machine is needed and does
not create the problems the candy machine does.
l p
Need a new squeegy. Also need a first aid kit.
bandaids, rubber gloves, neosporen. Door handle on one of
the doors is broken.
Clorine--we need to buy more at a time; did run out at
times and didn't have any available. Clorinator is broken.
Drill hole in the top deck to allow water to drip or
run to the downstairs drain or add some more cement to
build up the low space in the area by the diving boards.
Need to be sure the water is* drained well for cold
weather to prevent breakage of the pipes.
