JANUARY 26, 1995

Attending: Lonnie Kellogg, Gay Easton, Jim Flisrand, Dave
Michael, and Donna Kilpatrick, chairman
Jim reported on the lifeguard certification program being
conducted by Rocky Mountain College, Feb. 7- Mar. 16. Am
advertisement has been placed in the Laurel Outlook concerning the
classes. Interested lifeguards are to report directly to RMC. They will
pay for the instruction and when they are hired and are on the city
payroll for a time, they will be reimbursed by the city. Henry Griffith., a
lifeguard from last year has offered to place an announcement on the
school loud speaker system to alert those students who may be
interested in the lifeguarding classes. He will also announce that
application forms are available at city hall. Between 15-20 guards are
needed for the season. The Red Cross is deciding what certification
program it will endorse and when that decision is made Gail Nutting
from RMC has agreed (at no additional charge) to update the guards
who were in her certification. classes.
CPR classes will also need to be presented this year and Jim is
working on this possibly to incorporate other city employees into the
same classes.
Jim said city trees are in need of pruning and he is beginning a
tree pruning program which will include some park trees.
He will also look into the possibility of getting a U.S.West grant.
The deadline for application for civic/community improvement grants is
Oct. 15.
Consideration is being given to placing a service road in Thomson
Park that would lead from the swimming pool area directly to the
concession stand. The road would be for delivery only and would
perhaps stop trucks, cars, etc. from entering off Sixth St. across the
park to the concession stand.
Donna will check with Steve Arenson on plans the American.
Legion Baseball team may have in mind for improvement to the field.
We had promised the delivery of some sand for the infield.
Other discussion centered around the need for soccer fields,
dandelion spray the parks, and possibly free summer time help for the
parks from the Human Resource Development Council with supervision
from the city--which does present a problem.
The next meeting of the park committee will be Feb. 23.
0 Respectfully submitted,
Donna G. Kilpatrick
