Dave Michael, Dan Lowell, Donna Kilpatrick, chairman
Others: Cindy Chapple, Laurel girls' softball team; Dan McGee,
Dean Schneider, and Bob Johnson of the Laurel Girl's
Softball Association.
Discussion was held on the problems of scheduling, lack of fields that
are available, and rainy weather that has plagued the LGSA season so far this year.
The committee urged the groups to work together in scheduling and to present to the
park committee and Jim Flisrand, a copy of the scheduled games for the season as
soon as it is available each year.
The committee reviewed the application for swimming pool personnel
and recommended that Kyle Hoffman be hired as pool manager. Kyle served in that
capacity last year. Kyle and Jim, with Mayor Rodgers, will select the remainder of the
. pool personnel.
Jim moved,Gay seconded that we allow the Good Sam Gallivanters to
bring in about 200 rigs for a convention to be held in junction with the Laurel
Herbstfest in September, 1996. Motion carried.
The comittee saw no problem in allowing the Laurel Nazarene Church
permission to set up a 20' x 40' canopy in Kiwanis Park near 11th St. and Second
Ave,. for a Youth/Teen Rally on Friday, May 19 from 6 to 9.m. Jim suggested that
the canopy be placed further into the park rather than close to the intersection in
order to avoid any interference with visibility for motorists there.
Jim moved, Dan seconded that we reimburse the lifeguards the cost of the
certification class after they have been employed 30 days for the city. Motion carried.
Jim will interview the two applicants for the position of recreation
director. He will also set up a CPR course for city employees with the lifeguards
included. CPR training is required before they receive their certificates.
Work should begin this week on repairing the cracks in the tennis
courts.
The meeting adjourned at 7 p.m.
