Attending: Miles Walton, Gay Easton, Jim Flisrand, Andy Loebe, Dave Michael Others: Brooke Knudsen (628-4965 ), Troy Jansma, Diane Oversen Jim Eastman, Ellyn Guenthner, representing PEACE,(People Ending Abuse by Community Efforts.) Brooke asked about the possibility of improving a dedicated park near Bobcat Drive. The park is located in the county but is a part of our city-county park jurisdiction. We referred her to County Commissioner Kennedy. Gay moved, Miles seconded that we allow the PEACE organization to conduct a "clothesline project" in Fireman's Park, Wednesday, July 3 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Motion carried. The project is a part of the community awareness program whereby people who have been abused can tell their story via the teeshirt. The shirts will be on display in the community during the summer months. Jim and Andy will see to getting flags replaced at the shelter at Thomson Park. The flags were stolen and the pully system destroyed. They will also provide a lock system for the water box at Fireman's Park. It has been successfully located by the transients. Semi-final plans for the Fourth of July include: The theme: Legacy of Liberty, 1776-1996. Wednesday, July 3: Street Dance, Second Ave. between Main and First St.; 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.; admission $1. Band:Cimmaron. (need 4 to 6 garbage cans). Street closed: Second Ave from Main to First St.; West First St. from First Ave. to Third Ave. and alleys between First and Second Avenues. Thursday, July 4: Jaycee Pancake Breakfast, Fireman's Park, 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Adults, $4.50; students, 6-12, $3, children under 6 free. (need 3 garbage cans). Kiddies Parade, line up 9:30 a.m., parade starts at 10 a.m. at the First Security Bank. Parade route is on Montana Ave. to Main St., two blocks west to Second Ave. and disbands at the Laurel Creamery.(Reserves will control traffic on that route). • Grand Parade: 11 a.m. ( route attached.) Barbecue in the Park, Laurel Volunteer Firemen F 'y" ;w and auxiliary. Thomson Park, 11 a..m. Barbecued beef sandwiches, pickles, chips, carmel apples, pop, tea and coffee. $3.50 per plate: $2 for just a sandwich. Equipment will move in on July 3 and out late on the 4th. Activities in Thomson Park: Dunking Booth, Girls Softball team-- Cindy Chapple: Fire in the Hole Chili Contest, selling beer in a secured area, Christmas to Remember; dime toss, Rebekahs; crafts, Laurel Arts and Crafts Guild; Little League and American Legion, concession stand with mobile units going through the park throughout the day and evening. Close Eighth St. From First Ave. to Penn. Ave. and no parking on First Ave, both sides from Sixth St. to Eighth St. and on the East side from Eighth St. to Ninth St. An area will be set up near Eighth St. in Thomson Park as a designated handicap area where disabled persons will be able to leave their vehicles and sit in their wheelchairs to watch the fireworks. Miles moved, Gay seconded that we deny a request from the Billings Motor Sports Park group to sell glow in the dark bracelets and necklaces.
