MINUTES
STREET/ALLEY & SOLID WASTE COMMITTEE
JUNE 19, 1996 5:30 P.M.
COUNCIL CHAMBERS
MEMBERS PRESENT: Gay Easton Bud Johnson
Marvin Carter Ed Steffans
Mike Zuhoski
A request has been made to place a stop sign on the corner of
Cottonwood and E. 8th Street.
Mike Zuhoski was present and stated that there have been numerous
accidents at this particular intersection. It has become the
autobahn for Laurel.
Jim stated that stop signs should never be used to control the
speed of traffic.
The City will need to do a traffic study first in order to legally
place a stop sign or a 4-way stop at the intersection of Cottonwood
and E. 8th Street.
A complaint had been received from a residence in that area
is regarding speed and traffic at the intersection.
Motion made and seconded to have Jim Flisrand do a traffic
study of the intersection and bring the information back to the
next Street and Alley meeting. Motion carried.
The City received a complaint regarding dust on Beartooth. The
resident making the complaint did not attend the meeting. The City
is not set up for dust control and the committee tabled the subject
for now.
Discussion on recreational vehicles parking on the streets. No
action will be taken at this time to change the current ordinances .
Bud Johnson stated that the delivery trucks for Ricci's are driving
over the curb and sidewalks off of E. 3rd Street. The City should
review the situation for possible corrections.
The City has been approached by the School for a joint recycling
program.
The committee recommends that Jim Flisrand pursue the schools
recycling idea further.
There is a garbage concern relating to inadequate assessment of all
material brought to the container site. Current ordinances require
all businesses to be assessed for the amount of garbage they
generate. At this point in time the City is not assessing
businesses for all garbage brought to the container site.
Motion was made and seconded to begin assessing as required in
the ordinance. All contractors, county residents and extra garbage
from businesses will be assessed at the container site.
Additional time will be spent to reassess the cubic yard charge at
the container site, which is currently $6.00 per cubic yard.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
Respectfully s bmitted,
Andy Loebe
