HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Committee Minutes 05.23.1994 AGENDA 1994 4TH OF JULY PLANNING COMMITTEE MAY 23, 1994 Committee members: Bob Graham, Dave Michael, Vicki Walton, Shawna Wegner, Bob Wommack, Steve Arenson, Keith Thompson, Chris Finley, Mark Kauffman, Mike Atkinson, Jim Eastman and Mike Finley, and Donna Kilpatrick, chairman. (All members attended with the exception of Bob Wommack, Shawna Wegner and Chris Finley.) Three day celebration? Two day celebration7-- We will have a two day celebration July 3 and 4. Theme of the event? The theme of the event will be Independance Galore in '94 selected from a contest sponsored by the LCC among students of Jack Bayne's eighth grade classes at the Laurel Middle School. Jaycees: Street Dance Date- July 3, 1994 Time- 9 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Place-Second Ave. in front of the Laurel-Worden Creamery. Band-Sucky Beaver and the Ground Grippers Price-$1 or one non-perishable food item. Security-Jaycees will provide their own security within the fenced area. Reserves will provide the security outside the fenced area. . *** Insurance-they are working on this but will have a copy of the insurance to Don Hackmann as soon as they receive it. Garbage cans-need 4 or 5 Other needs-parking lot at the city lot and the bank lot will be fenced. Alleyway will be closed as will Second Ave. from Main St. to Third St. First St. from the alleyway by city hall to Third Ave. may be closed. The T alleyway between First Ave. and Second Ave. will also be closed. In case of rain the dance will be moved to the Jaycee Hall in Riverside Park. The Jaycees are working on a power source for the band and will talk to 7 r 1 0I Bill Teeters about this. T?v T' r-l Menu- pancakes, ham, milk, coffee. garbage cans-need 4 or 5 (portapotties- could find no way of moving the portapotties from the dance site to Thomson Park so we will leave them there and order 10 potties to be delivered to Thomson Park on Monday. This will be paid for by the city.? Power for the breakfast: Jaycees will contact Montana Power Co. Other needs- 0 Kiddies Parade: Annette Warden is chairman; Date-July 4 Time-10:30 a.m. line-up time, 10 a.m. Route- starts at First Security Bank Parking Lot turns south on Montana Ave. to Main St. turns west on Main St. for one block to First Ave. and ends at Ricci's parking lot. Other needs- Chamber of Commerce "Main Parade" Date- July 4 Time-- line-up time 9 a.m. Parade starts at 11 a.m. Route-start: Woods Power Grip, east on Main ST. to Colorado, north to First St., west to First Ave., north to Seventh St. west to Third Ave. past the Laurel Care Center, north to Ninth St. and the parade will end in the High School parking lot. Entry blanks have been mailed to last year's entries and to all Laurel businesses. • Other needs- Vicki Walton reporting. Firemen's Barbeque Time- immediately following the parade. Date--July 4 Menu--Barbecue sandwich, pickle chips. Price: $3.50 per plate Garbage needs-the number of cans in the park; are adequate, they just need to be emptied. Firemen's Auxiliary: They will sell pop, carameled apples, and any barbecued sandwiches that do not sell during the barbecue. The tent will be open until after the fireworks. American Legion Baseball is Schedule of tournament games attached. Concession stand: they will have three in operation, 1. the main concession stand, 2. they will activate the old concession stand for this event, 3. and will have a third concession stand on wheels located between the two Little League fields and the stands will operate until the lights go out after the fireworks. Booths? Deadline for reserving a booth is June 20. A final plan for the two day event will be presented to the city council on June 21. Booths already reserving a place in Thomson Park Laurel Democrats (Pizza)` Laurel Kiwanis- Cotton Candy, ice cream bars and fudgcicles Rebekah Lodge- (dime toss) Christmas Cook-off Contest. A park area for the c but from about 12 until to Remember will sponsor the Chili fenced-in area will be provided in the ontest where beer will be sold h06"- only during the chili contest hours 5 P.M. Girls Softball team: dunking booth br? f yl ,p / Laurel Assembly of God Church, dunking .?- 26. Laurel Arts and Crafts Guild: Arts and Crafts display An area of 6 parking spaces will be reserved for a flat bed truck on Sixth St. where a band will be playing during a portion of the afternoon hours on July 4 following the parade. (Terry Fink requested the spaces be reserved.) The firemen do not need any spaces reserved on Sixth St. this year. The fire truck will be placed in the alleyway between Colorado and Montana Avenues. We are again stressing that no vehicles be allowed in the park unless it is absolutely necessary. Persons needing to drive into the park are urged to use the roadway designed for vehicles rather than just driving on the grass. Eighth St. between First Ave. and Pennsylvania Ave. will be closed for emergency vehicles. The parking lot west of Athletic Field will be barricaded and designated for bus parking for the American Legion baseball tournament. The Retail Trades Committee of the Laurel Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a carnival from Oscar's Dreamland on Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Sunday and Monday, June 30 and July 1-4. There will be betwen 8 to 12 kiddie rides. The carnival will be completely self contained and needs no garbage cans, etc. The carnival will be situated on private/commercial land on Colorado Ave. and Main St. across from Ben Franklin and next to Dairy Queen. The fire department will have a commercial sound system and at 6 p.m. will begin playing "canned music". The baseball tournament should be over by that time so the music will not interfer with the tournament. 1-1 r? • Coach, Welcome to the Laurel Legion 4th of July Tourney. All games are 7 inning on 2 hour time limit unless the game is within 1 run. The designated hitter can be used and a courtesy runner for the catcher. One infield practice a day. Tourney champ will be the best record.
