Ron reported that he heard on the news last night that the problems
with the ash trees around town was caused by the cold weather and
freeze that we had early this spring. Some of the branches may
come out of it but we will just have to wait and see.
Gay complimented the City Crew or whoever cleaned up the park so
quickly after the 4th of July.
Dave reminded the council of the quarterly landfill users meeting
to be held in Billings on Tuesday, July 12th at 10:00 a.m. Dave
stated that he will be on vacation and will not be able to attend.
He encouraged any of the council members that can to attend.
Dave stated that a representative from the refinery will be at the
next Public Utilities meeting to request 2 fire hydrants on our
east line for their tank farm because they do not have adequate
flow in that area.
Sharon reminded the council of the Budget Finance meeting and
Special City Council meeting on Thursday, July 7th to review and
approve the claims for the month of June.
Mike Atkinson stated that Dave Slaymaker has resigned from the
Police Department so they will be filling his position shortly.
Vicki stated that Smokey Staudinger was in and wanted the council
to know how much he appreciated having East 8th Street shut off for
the 4th of July.
There was discussion about the carnival that was in town over the
weekend. Ron asked who gave them permission to shut off the alley
and encroach on public property. Donna stated that they did it
themselves. They came to the park committee meeting and told us
how they felt about it, that it was private property and we didn't
have any right to tell them no. They were suppose to leave an area
open for traffic to get through. Ron stated the area was totally
i
r
blocked off and they moved the garbage cans out in the street for
pickup.
The Mayor stated that he will be asking tonight what direction the
council wants to go regarding the Maintenance Director or Public
Works Director. He stated that we are running into a binding
situation this coming week when so many people will be on vacation
and out of town. We don't have anyone to carry the pager. John
Minch stated that he would be willing to help out and he thought
there were several of the guys at the shop that would also help.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Sharon Herman
