HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark Board Minutes 06.04.2009City of Laurel Park Board Minutes Thursday, June 4, 2009 City Council Chambers 5:30 P.M. Public Comments (three-minute limit): Citizens may address the committee regarding item of city business NOT on the agenda. The duration far an individual speaking under Public Comments is limited to three minutes. While all comments are welcome, the committee will not take action on any item, which does not appear on the agenda. Approval of the minutes from May 4, 2009 meeting. (Motion and a 2nd) James Caniglia City Planner was asked to give a brief description of the items that were discussed at the last TIFD meeting at the Owl Cafe. James explained that the group would like to find suitable undeveloped park spaces set aside for subdivisions that could be used for a "Community Garden" for residents to have as a community project. James stated that chefs at the Owl would love to use fresh locally grown herbs and vegetables from a garden such as this. Jolene Reich gave a quick talk on a Riverside Park Master plan concept that involved public meetings. a. 0 meeting would be public feedback of the initial concept. b. 2"d meeting would be a stakeholders meeting to give them a chance to get onboard with the idea. (fee- $1,200.00) c. Next a focus group effort with random surveys. d. Questionnaire to the public (800) with approx 350 corning back completed. (fee $16,000.00) Target questions, household income, size of families, etc. Some survey locations could be by phone, at football games, polling places with the election corning up soon. Kate asked Jolene if a contract would follow with that. She reminded the committee would come up with that, for the City Council as a recommendation for them to approve. Jolene suggested for the Parks Committee to get a copy of the survey from McGee and Company to have on file also to refer to from time to time. Playground report for Nutting Park was that the park is pretty close to completion. The fence was bid by Jares Fence for a total sum of $3,500.00 for entire playground. Fence should be done next week, he hopes. Kurt thinks it will be about $3,500 to complete the project for the playground. Kurt would like the committee to team up with the Public Works folks to tour the swimming pool and see how it is looking, especially on the bottom floor. Kurt stated that the temperature of the pool is really cold right now. Meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Mark Mace
