BOX 10 October 18, 1983 PHONE: 628-$791 PUBLIC UTILITIES DEPARTMENT Lonnie Kellogg, Chairman Public Utilities Committee Laurel, MT. 59044 Dear Lonnie: This regards a change order request for the painting of the standpipe located at the water treatment plant. After inspection of the paint job, the interior walls were accepted.on October 12th. The exterior was inspected on October 18th and accepted. The interior floor only. has between 10 to 14 mils as of October 18, 1983. Specs written for this required 16 mils. E Due to the length,of time since the las on September 16th, the filters are badly due Normally, the filters are washed each week. cating the situation was dirty water treated period causing the filters to become dirtier this time of year. t filter backwash for backwashing. Further compli- during this than normal for Therefore, we ask the City Council for a change order to accept 10 to 14 mils of coating on the floor of the stand- pipe, for these reasons: 1) Onsetting cold weather. 2) Need for filter backwashing not done since September 16th. 3) To prevent permanent clogging of the filters which could blow the media when they are finally backwashed. 4) An additional coating (if weather warms up enough to permit) on the floor would require an additional 10-days minimum cure time. It is expected the filters would be too clogged to get clean by this time. 5) Two alternate coatings bid on this contract allowed 12 mils as the finished thickness, so this 10--14 mil reading is considered adequate protection. avid A.
