HB 645 provides $10 million in grants for counties and $10 million in grants for cities and towns for local infrastructure projects. It is my pleasure to announce that you will receive a grant of $116,876 for your designated infrastructure project as listed in HB 645. The final determination for your grant allocation from HB 645 was made by the Governor's Office of Budget and Program Planning on May 22"d. You may notice that your grant amount might be slightly higher than the amount indicated previously by the Department of Commerce. have made the decision to allow local governments to begin incurring eligible costs for their authorized projects as of May 14t", 2009. This is the date Governor Schweitzer signed HB 645 into law. Funds will be provided to local governments once a contract for the grant is signed between your local government and the Department of Commerce. More details on the grant program policies are available on the Department of Commerce's website under "HB 645 Local Government Infrastructure Grants": http:Hrecovery.mt.gov/commerce/LocalGrant/. Governor Schweitzer has directed all agencies to ensure that all of the Montana Recovery Act projects comply with the spirit and intent of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for transparency and accountability. Therefore, the contract -you will be receiving will include monthly financial and job creation reporting and compliance requirements that are consistent with the guidelines of the federal ARRA. My staff and I are prepared to get this funding to you as soon as possible for local projects that will put Montanans back to work addressing critical local needs, while stimulating both our state and national economy.
