HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark Committee Minutes 07.26.1989 M I N U T E S Park COMMITTEE Date -July 26, 1989 Time 5:30 PM Place of Meeting City Hall MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Mel Meccage Jim Flisrand Chuck Dickerson OTHER'S PRESENT: Donna Kilpatrick Milt Wester Ron Faught Liz Feuerbacher E A quorum (3 or more) present, the following action was taken by the Committee: Liz Feuerbacher attended the meeting to request information concerning the West Park (in the county) and Nutting Park. The Laurel Girls Softball League might.be interested in developing one of the parks into a softball complex. Liz requested the exact location of the West Park. Chuck Dickerson moved that the Committee recommend that the girls softball league prepare a plan for development of Nutting Park for the Committee's study. Motion carried. Jim reported that the pool had been broken into on Tuesday night, July 24. Some checks were taken and a radio belonging to one of the guards was filled with mud. An investigation is continuing. Crews started. installing the sewer line for the construction' of the new concession stand/bathrooms in Thomson Park. Discussion was held concerning the operation of the concession stand once it is completed. A bid process for awarding the contract to operate the stand is being considered. Milt Wester expressed opposition to that plan saying he felt the American legion team should be given the opportunity to operate the stand. Jim will bring to the August 24th meeting a plan for proposed regulations for operating the stand for'the Committee to consider. Large boulders have surfaced, in the area of the playground equipment in Murray Park and pose a safety factor for children playing there. Jim will check into this. Weeds growing to closely to the curbs in various parks are • causing concrete to break. Jim will check into this also. Spraying for bugs, at least in City parks, was discussed. but no action was taken. Donna Kilpatrick will make an inventory of broken playground equipment in order for replacements to be ordered. Milt Wester, speaking on behalf of Bob Strand, moved that we allow a tournament to be held at the tennis courts, August 25, 26 and 27. The courts will be closed to the public on those days. Motion carried. An advertisement will be placed in the paper concerning the closure of the courts. Milt Wester suggested that the City set up a maintenance control program for Athletic Field. when the watering system and other improvements are completed. The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 PM.
