A quorum (3 or more) present, the following action was taken
by the Committee:
Brian Fisher reported that the Chamber has made all of the
arrangements for police security for the Fourth of July in Thomson
Park. Two reserve officers will be in the park all day, primarily
to do "peace keeping" duties. If a problem does arise, the
officers will be able to handle it. The ambulance will also be
stationed in the park. Other booths, other than the Bierstube,
which will be in the Little League fenced-in field, will be the
Laurel Fire Department, barbecue and pop; Laurel Museum, pop
and hamburgers after 4:00 p.m.; Laurel Kiwanis Club, cotton
candy; Laurel Jaycees BB Gun Team, shooting booth and dunking
machine; Christmas to Remember, carnival games and ice cream;
and Laurel Democrats, voter registration booth.
Jim Worthington also reported that additional garbage cans
will be placed in both Firemen's Park and Thomson Park to
accomodate the crowds. The swimming pool will be open regular
hours on the 4th.
The 1989 swimming season tickets will be valid (for the
remainder of the season) if the 10 cents additional admission
price is paid.
LuAnn moved, seconded by Bill that we adopt the Billings
guidelines for free swimming lessons and season tickets for those
individuals who qualify. Motion carried.
The Park Committee recommends that transients not be allowed
to use the shower facilities at Riverside Park unless the $5 fee
is paid. Community Hope had called to see if transients could
be sent to Riverside Park for a shower.

Jim will check with the Laurel American Legion baseball team
concerning a report that 12 people were atop the old concession
stand that has been transformed into a scorer's booth. The
concession stand roof can only accomodate 3 people at one time.
The Laurel Kiwanis Club has offered to work with the City
on killing weeds around Kiwanis Park and also to install a handicap
ramp on Third Avenue and Mountain View Lane. People from the
Laurel Care Center are brought to the Park, but have difficulty
getting over the curb.
Bob Strand recommended that a tribute of some kind be made
in memory of D.J. McGillen and placed in a City park.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Donna Kilpatrick, Chairman
