HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark Committee Minutes 06.28.1990 M I N U T E S PARKS COMMITTEE • C o ?t'? l 7,/3j90 is Date June 28, 1990 Time 5:00 p.m. Place of Meeting MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Bob Strand LuAnn Engh OTHER'S PRESENT: Brian Fisher City Hall Donna Kilpatrick Bill Brennan Jim Worthington Bob Gauthier A quorum (3 or more) present, the following action was taken by the Committee: Brian Fisher reported that the Chamber has made all of the arrangements for police security for the Fourth of July in Thomson Park. Two reserve officers will be in the park all day, primarily to do "peace keeping" duties. If a problem does arise, the officers will be able to handle it. The ambulance will also be stationed in the park. Other booths, other than the Bierstube, which will be in the Little League fenced-in field, will be the Laurel Fire Department, barbecue and pop; Laurel Museum, pop and hamburgers after 4:00 p.m.; Laurel Kiwanis Club, cotton candy; Laurel Jaycees BB Gun Team, shooting booth and dunking machine; Christmas to Remember, carnival games and ice cream; and Laurel Democrats, voter registration booth. Jim Worthington also reported that additional garbage cans will be placed in both Firemen's Park and Thomson Park to accomodate the crowds. The swimming pool will be open regular hours on the 4th. The 1989 swimming season tickets will be valid (for the remainder of the season) if the 10 cents additional admission price is paid. LuAnn moved, seconded by Bill that we adopt the Billings guidelines for free swimming lessons and season tickets for those individuals who qualify. Motion carried. The Park Committee recommends that transients not be allowed to use the shower facilities at Riverside Park unless the $5 fee is paid. Community Hope had called to see if transients could be sent to Riverside Park for a shower. 1 ? I) Page 2 Parks Committee meeting of June 28, 1990 Jim will check with the Laurel American Legion baseball team concerning a report that 12 people were atop the old concession stand that has been transformed into a scorer's booth. The concession stand roof can only accomodate 3 people at one time. The Laurel Kiwanis Club has offered to work with the City on killing weeds around Kiwanis Park and also to install a handicap ramp on Third Avenue and Mountain View Lane. People from the Laurel Care Center are brought to the Park, but have difficulty getting over the curb. Bob Strand recommended that a tribute of some kind be made in memory of D.J. McGillen and placed in a City park. The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Donna Kilpatrick, Chairman 0
