A quorum (3 or more) present, the following action was taken
by the Committee:
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the pool operation
for the summer of 1990. Assistant Manager Mike Gauthier reported
on the year saying that:
1. the season went well with no major problems
2. Maintenance of the water, chemicals, etc., was good
3. suggested that a head lifeguard be appointed
4. the baby pool hours should be studied as a guard is
sometimes there with 1 or no swimmers present
5. more lifeguards are needed (20). We had 12-13 this year
and it caused a problem with overworked guards and some
leaving at the end of the season leaving a small number
left to operate the pool which meant the guards didn't
get the proper breaks
6. lessons need certified instructors.
Orientation at the beginning of the season is needed. We
also need a policy on allowing swimmers back in after closing for
a storm.
The pool closing hours should be studied. Either we are
open until the hours that are advertised, or change the hours.
Bob Strand moved that whistles will be used by the guards
as a means of attracting attention- policy will be cast in stone!
Motion carried.
Bob Strand told the Committee of a private gathering which
will be open to the public in South Pond Park on September 8th.
It will be a "Deadfest" in commemoration of the anniversary of
the fish kill in South Pond. There maybe a fishing derby- beer
will be available but not sold. He saw no need to allow the
Deadfest as it is like a family outing. No motion was made.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted, /
Donna Kilpatrick ?'
