following action was taken
A report on the summer's activities was given by Alice
Branstetter for the Laurel Little League and Leonard Knaub for
the American Legion Baseball. Although a detailed financial
statement will be available later, Alice reported that each
organization made about $3,500 from concessions. They reported
a good year with few problems. There is one bad sprinkler head
on the American Legion field and they suggested a different type
of head be used next year.
Cheryll Lund, representing Girls Softball requested a chain
link foul line fence be installed in the north west section of
Nutting Park, at the Softball Assoc. expense. The Committee
questioned if the park is big enough for 3 fields and whether or
not fences should be placed on a neighborhood park. Suggestion
that they maybe use the Complex on E. 8th St. instead of fencing
Nutting. More study will be given to the request.
The Committee requested that the garbage cans be returned
to the pool area parking lot and to Kiwanis Park..
Members of the Laurel Garden Club attended the meeting to
ask when the watering system, they will finance, can be put in
Firemen's Park. They also asked if they can sterilize the
ground near the statue for planting next spring: They have plans
to extend the present flower garden area a little each year until
they reach the statue. They also asked when they can start taking
out the dead portions of the hedge in Firemen's Park. Jim
Worthington will work with the Garden Club on all 3 requests.
Dogs, being brought to the park to do their jobs,, is again
a problem and the ladies asked for an ordinance prohibiting such
practice. This had been a problem earlier in the year and a
talk with the dog owner seemed to help for awhile.

Park Committee meeting of September 13, 1990
Henry Lich requested to plant quick growing trees near the
horseshoe pits, at the clubs expense. He will work with Jim
Worthington on this.
Motion by Lonnie Kellogg, seconded by Dennis Eaton, that
we regretfully accept Darrell McGillen's resignation from the
Park Committee. Motion carried.
Dave Michael reported that the bathrooms in Thomson, Riverside
& Russell Parks will be winterized about September 30th and not
opened up again until early May. Lights will be left on in
Thomson Park during the winter months on the shelter, bathrooms
and pool. Grass will be planted on Sept. 17th in Thomson Park.
The tables from the shelter area will be stored in the pool for
the winter.
The Committee will begin revising the swimming pool manuals
and will study the park policy on selling (commercial and/or
non-profit) in the parks.
Beginning in October, the Park Committee will meet on the
4th Thursday only.
• The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Donna Kilpatrick, Chairman
