Bob distributed the Mayor's Status Report dated April 18, 1989.
Included in the status report is the Fire Department statistical
report for 1988.
On the agenda tonight is Lucky Seibert regarding highway
warning signs and accident rate south of Laurel. Since this is
outside the City limits Jim gave him a call. There have been
several accidents and "close calls" in this area and Mr. Siebert
wants the City to write a letter to the State of Montana.
Another position will be open for equipment operator to
replace Jim Redman who is on Worker's Compensation due to a back
injury. This will be a temporary position for 9 months. This
will be bid out and if no current employees are interested, it
will be advertised.
Jim Flisrand and Bob Gauthier attended a meeting with the
County regarding a solid waste district. They also saw a
demonstration of a new garbage truck.
Summer employees will probably be hired around the end of
May for a 90 day period. The swimming pool is tentatively
scheduled to open June 10th and close around August 28th.

?Q
Major street repair is planned and chip sealing will be
cut back this year. This was a bad winter for our streets.
Areas of immediate concern are 5th Street, 3rd Avenue, single
block streets from 1st Street to Main in the business district
and over by the Library.
Discussion regarding appliances outside over by George's
Appliance. Joe has written a certified letter and George
apparently hasn't picked it up yet.
Discussion regarding vehicles, RV's and trailers parked
on the street. Alan reported that the Police Department is
currently working on this. According to state law, a vehicle
cannot be parked on a street for more than 5 consecutive days,
without moving it. Also, discussion regarding the junk around
the residence across the alley from 511 Alder.
Bob reported that he talked with Mr. Bayne at the High
School regarding a centennial flag. He has a U.S. flag with
42 stars on it when Montana became a state, which will be
presented to the City. Mr. Bayne was going to check with
the Art Club and.see if they could design a flag for the City
of Laurel, but Bob hasn't heard anything back on this yet.
Bob reminded Department Heads to turn in their budget
worksheets.
0 The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Don Hackmann
