ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2.08.020 OF THE LAUREL MUNICIPAL CODE
CLARIFYING THAT THE LIBRARY BOARD IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING SALARIES
AND COMPENSATION FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY LIBRARY.
WHEREAS, Montana Law, specifically MCA § 22-1-310 provides authority for the Library Board to
set the salaries and compensation for library employees; and
WHEREAS, the Laurel Municipal Code at Chapter 2.08.020, does not clearly delineate that the City
Council does not set or fix salaries or compensation for the City Library Employees pursuant to MCA § 22-
1-310; and
IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED by the City Council ofthe City of Laurel, Montana, that the following
chapter is hereby modified and adopted into the LAUREL MUNICIPAL CODE as set forth below.
2.08.020 Prescribing duties and compensation of officers.
The city council has power to fix compensation and to prescribe the duties of all officers and other
employees of the city, exc t for em to ees of the libr whose compensation shall be fixed b the libr
board pursuant to Chapter 2.80. (Prior
code § 2.12.200)
This Ordinance becomes effective thirty (30) days after final passage bythe City Council and approval
by the Mayor.

March 17 , 2009, by Council Member Rodgers
