A quorum (a or more) present the following action was taken by
the committee:
The committee reviewed the October claims and recommended
that they be paid.
Ernie Davis would like to sell 5 old vehicles that are not
currently in service.
1971 Chevrolet Impala
1973 Dodge pick up 4x4
1967 Dodge 3/4 ton pick up
1967 Dodge crew cab pick up
• 1963 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pick up
The committee recommended to sell these vehicles by advertising
for bids.
(???_PaR? Magnus Tree Removal Service would cut down a large cottonwood
tree by the American Legion Hall for $75. The committee recommended
<, -411 approval.
Discussion regarding the inspection by USF&G Insurance Co.
and the additional security needed at the city shop. Ernie is
recommending an additional gate be installed. The committee
recommended the Ernie obtain bids for this. Locks, and boarding
up windows were also discussed.
Ernie requested to order a truck mounted snow plow and a
grader gate blade. The committee recommends to order these, but
not to pay for them until January 10, 1987, after the 1st half
taxes have been received. This is budgeted in the snow Removal Fund.
Discussion regarding replacing fire hydrants. Ernie requested
that we purchase 6 Kennedy Guardian fire hydrants 0 $600 each.
The committee recommends that this be done as soon as possible to
replace inoperative hydrants. These are in the 1986-87 budget.
The committee confirmed the Police Committee's recommendation
in accepting Fitchner Chevrolet's bid for a police car.
0 Bob presented a revised revenue sharing cash flow projection.

Dear Darrell,
You will find enclosed 5 copies of the testing results of all 218
fire hydrants in and around the City. I have also given the Mayor and
each Councilman a copy.
After a personal inspection of every hydrant Phil Curry and I have
rated each hydrants condition from very good to very poor. It will be
my recommendation to the Mayor and to the Budget and Finance Committee
that we replace as soon as possible four hydrants that are in very poor
condition. These are numbered 87, 979 103, and 180. All four hydrants
are in populated residential areas with two of them within 1 block of
schools.
I will also recommend that hydrants numbered 28 and 43 be replaced
as.they are in the business district and in poor condition and leak when
in use. Two other hydrants that need replacement as soon as possible
. are numbered 84 and 89. Number 84 is immediately adjacent to industrial
property and number 89 is in a highly populated residential area where
there are several other poor condition fire hydrants.. I.feel all of the
above mentioned hydrants should be considered for replacement during this
fiscal year.
There are 14 other hydrants I have listed that are in poor condition,
they are numbered 1, 6, 21, 30, 34, 81, 85, 86, 91, 98, 100, 102, 114, and
115. These should all be considered for replacement during the fiscal
year 1987-88. Due to the cost factor in the replacement of hydrants it
will be my recommendation that replacements be made with ,Kennedy Guardian
Hydrants. The Kennedy Guardian meets all AWWA specifications as well as
the Mueller Centurian we are now using but the price is nearly $200. less.
A policy I have instituted in hydrant replacement is that whenever
there is a 4" line coming from the main to the hydrant and the main is at
least 6" we are replacing the 4" with 6" which will increase your G.P.M.
and pressure.
At the present time we are painting all fire hydrants-throughout the
City red and color coding the tops as per code depending on pressure.
