2009 MUNICIPAL ELECTED OFFICIALS WORKSHOP
Billings Holiday Inn-Grand Montana
May 6 - S, 2009
PURPOSE
The purpose of the workshop is to help mayors and council/commission members learn about
their roles and responsibilities as elected officials, to keep updated on new and emerging issues
and opportunities of importance to local governance, and to enhance their capacity to serve
effectively, professionally and efficiently in municipal government. The program is held in
conjunction with the Montana Municipal Institute for Clerks, Treasurers, and Finance Officers
and the Jim Tillotson Service Program for city attorneys to allow for interaction between city
attorneys and officials of both the executive and legislative branches of local government.

ABOUTTHE AGENDA
The agenda was developed in collaboration between the Local Government Center and the
Montana Municipal Insurance Authority in response to requests from Mayors, City Council
members and City Attorneys and in recognition of a number of risk exposures which have
occurred in the past year. Presenters include seasoned experts in local government from around
the state of Montana including university faculty and Montana Municipal Insurance Authority
professionals as well as state and local officials.

REGISTRATION FEES AND METHODS OF PAYMENT
The fee for the workshop is $175 for the first elected official from a municipality, and $150 for each addi-
tional elected official. This fee includes all instructional materials, the Thursday night banquet with the Mu-
nicipal Clerks, continental breakfasts, coffee breaks and lunches. City claim forms are acceptable for deposits
and payments of registration fees. Please make checks payable to the Local Government Center. You may
pay a deposit of $50; the balance will be due at registration on Wednesday, May 6, 2009.
CANCELLATION POLICY
If notice of cancellation is received by the Local Government Center by April 24, 2009, the deposit will be
refunded less $10. No refund will be made for cancellations received after that date. Substitute participants
may be made at any time.
