November 21st,1916.
The City Council met in regular session at the Council
Chambers of the City Hall at eight o'clock P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Laird.
The following aldermen were -present; Lamb,Horen, Davis,
Jacabs,Hanner and Shields.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and ap roved
on motion duly made,seconded and carried.
Report of the Chief of Police for the `month of October,
1916 was read and approved on motion duly made,seconded and carried.
The water intake was discussed. Alderman Davis reported
he had spoken to J.F.Jackson about doing work.
Bond of Geo.H.Rodtoden for $5000 was --resented before
council. A motion was duly made, seconded and carried, that a
committee be appointed to see Mr. Geo. H.Rowden about Bond.
The Mayor appointed a committee of two .-.composed of
Davis and Hanner to discuss the matter of the clerk's office.
A motion wAs duly made,seconded and carried that the
office of City Attorney be declared vacant, the vote, upon
roll call, being as follows;
Ayes; Shields,Horen,Davis,Hanner and Jacobs.
Noes; Lamb.
Absent; None.
A moti on was duly made and. sAcdnded that. -the office of
the City Clerk be declared vacant. Upon roll call the vote stood
as follows;
Ayes; Shields,Horen,Davis,Hanner,Jacobs and Lamb.
Noes; None.
Absent; None.
The Ilayor appointed B.L.Price to fill the office of
City Attorney. A motion was duly made,seconded and carried that the
Ida.yorts appointment be approved.
The resignation of H,B.Shields as alderman 'tas.presented
acid read. A motion was duly made,seconded and carried that rir.
ShieldA' resignation be accepted
Illayor Laird apnointed Hugh B.Shields as City Clerk. A
motion w as duly made,seconded and carried that the Mayor's appointment
of H.B. Shields be approved.
The following nominations were made for alderman to fill
the vacancy created by the resignation of H.B.Shields. Jas.Dix and
Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
L.H.Ahlstrom. Ballot vote was cast --and Jas Dix re eived three votes
and L.H.Ahlstrom two votes. Jas Dix was declared elected.
A bill from B.C.Lillis for services rendered to City on
paving district as read. A motion was duly made,seconded and carried
that bill be tabled.
A motion was duly made,seconded and carries. that the Bonding
Company be notified of the failure of C.H.Green & Company to fulfill
their contract rand the City would lock to therm for damages, and that
C.H.Green & Company be also notified to that effect.
The :matter of putting in unfinished piece of walk in front
of the New Outlook Building under district No.19 was discussed.
A motion was duly made,seconded and carried that the sidewalk
committee handle this matter.
A motion was duly made,seconded and carried that the water
co-mmissioner be empo�.�ered to purchase map of water district.
A motion :,as duly made, seconded and carried that the meeti.yg
adjourn.
