Laurel, Montana - March 6th, 1917.
The City Council meet in regular session at the Council Chambers
of the City Hall at 8 o'clock, P.M.
Meeting called to order by &ayor Laird.
The following Alderman were present; Lamb, Davis, Horen, Dix,
Hanner and Jacobs.
. Report of the Police Judge for the month of February, 1917 was
read and approved upon motion duly made, seconded and carried.
City Treasurers report to March 1st, 1917 was read and accepted
upon motion duly made, seconded and carried.
Reports by Chief of Police was read and accepted upon motion duly
made, seconded and carried.
The Clerk was instructed to write the Dalton Adding hTachine Co.
and Attorney Goss in reference to the amount they claim is due on
adding machine contracted for some time ago, as follows; that the
machine did not do satisfactory work and after calling the Company$
attention to the fact that the machine was out of order and receiving
no response to our several letters the same was returned,to the
Company.
On supoorted motion $400.00 was ordered transferred from the
General Fund to the Sidewalk Fund.
A motion was made, seconded and carried that $26.'02 be transferred
from the Yeter Fund to the Water Fund.
Motion made, seconded and carried that the Meter Fund be discon-
tinued.
Motion made, seconded and carried that warrants drawn on the
Meter Fund now outstanding be called in and paid out of the Water Fund.
Ordinance No. 139 providing for the Registration of the Names of
Persons Eligible to vote at Special Elections by Taxpayers within the
City of Laurel, Montana, was introduced and read.
A motion was made by Hanner and seconded by Jacobs that ordinace
No. 139 as read be passed and adopted. Upon roll call the vote stood
as follows;
Aye: Lamb, Horen, Davis, Dix, Hanner and Jacobs.
Nay: None
Absent: None
Whereupon ordinace No. 139 was declared adopted and was approved
by the Mayor, attested by the Clerk and the seal of the City attached.
Ordinance No. 140 providing for submitting to the taxpayers, who
are qualified electors of the City of Laurel, the proposition of said
City extending the three per cent limit of indebtedness fixed by law
and incurring an additional indebtedness, (which indebtedness, includ-
ing all indebtedness heretofore contracted which is unpaid or out-
standing, shall not excedd ten per centum over and above the three
per cent heretofore re 'ferred to, of the total assessed valuation of
the taxable property of the City as ascertained by the last assessment
for state and county taxes), by the issuance of negotiable coupon bonds
to the amount of Four thousand Dollars, for the purpose of procuring
a dater Supply for said city which shall own and. control said water
supply and devote the revenues derived therefrom to the payment of the
debt, was introduced and read.
A motion was made by Horen and seconded by Lamb that Ordinance
No. 140 as read be passed and adopted. Upon roll call the vote stood
as follows:
Aye: Lamb, Horen, Davis, Dix, Hanner and Jacobs.
Nay: None
Absent: None
Whereupon Ordinance No. 140 was declared adopted and was approved
by the Mayor, attested by the Clerk, and the seal of the City attached.
The Clerk was instructed to write Rogers and Allene bondsman to
use their influence to get them on the job assoon as possible.
The Mayor designated the following places as voting placing at
the coming City Election to be held April 2nd, 1917.
First Ward; Laurel Creamery. Second Ward: City Hall. Third Ward:
Laurel Lumber Co. office. On supported motion the same were approved.
The -Mayor appointed the following persons to serve as Judges and
Clerks to serve at the coming election.
First Ward; Judges, W. C. Jones, W. E. Taylor & W. H. Gill. Clerks;
Bars. A. S. Erb and Francis Burla.
Second Ward; Judges; E. L. Fenton, 0. C. Bundy and Y. R. Walton.
Clerks; Minnie Standen and Mrs. D. N. McNeill.
Third Ward: Judges; Dan Reardon, Phil Gehrett and M. H. Lanpher.
Clerks: Mrs. Ber# Shadle and Mrs. B. G. Schneider.
Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
Ordinance relating to cutting salaries of City Officials was
submitted and read. On supported motion the same was ordered tabled
for future reference.

The petition of Riddoch and Haley for a retail liquor license
was read and on supported motion petition granted giving them
a license for nine months from April let, 1937.
Meeting adjourned on motion duly made, seconded and. carried.
