Laurel, Montana. January 2nd, 1917.
The City Council met in regular session at the Council Chambers
of the City Hall at eight Io' clock P. M.
The meeting was, called to order by Mayor Laird.
The following Alderman were present: Lamb; Davis; Hanner; Horen;
Dix and Davis.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved on motion
duly made, seconded and carried.
Report of the Chief of Police for month of December 1916 was read
and approved on motion duly made, seconded and carried.
Report of Chief of Police for the month of December 1916 relative
to meals and lodging furnished was read and order filed on motion duly
made, seconded and carried.
Street Cornr.-i ssioners' report for the month of December 1916 was
read and approred on motion duly made,. seconded and carried.
Inventory of City Property prepared by 0. C. Bundy, Street Com-
missioner, was read and on motion made, seconded and carried the same
was ordered filed.
Report of the Police Judge for the rronth of December 1916 was read
and approved on motion dulu made, seconded and carried.
A motion w.-Iis made, seconded and carried that the cost of rer.lodeling
the water intake at the pumping plant be paid for by creating a Special
Improvement District and if it could not be financed in this manner a
special election shall be held to vote bonds.
Upon roll call the vote stood as follows;
Yes; Lamb; Horen; Davis; Hanner and Jacobs.
No : none
Absent: Dix.
Motion made, seconded and carried instructing the Water Commissioner
to order fifty (50) water meters.
Communication from Fire Marshall read and ordered filed.
Letter from Cameron Septic Tank Co. read and ordered placed on file.
Agreement,which it was deemed necessary for the City to enter into
with Rogers & Allen before starting new procedings in connection with the
sidealk improvement districts, was read. A motion was made, seconded and.
carried that the Clerk be instructed to send agreement to Rogers and
Allen for execution and if said agreement is properly signed and returned
by said Rogers and Alen the Clerk and Mayor was authorized to execute
said agreement in behalf of the City of Laurel.
Motion made and seconded that B. C. Lilles shall receive seven (7)
per cent. of the contract price of all contract work let by the City
of Laurel, Montana during the year 1917 as compensation for his services
as City Engineer. Carried.
Motion made, seconded and. carried that Thos. E. Lamb be given day
shift as Chief of Police at the salary of $100.00 per month, with the
understanding that he discharge the duties of Street and Park Cor^.r'issioner.
A motion was made, seconded and carried that the City dispense
with 0. C. Bundy"s servie--s in all departments and Clerk instructed to
notify him to that effect.
Mayor Laird appointed Ernest Wilson night watchman -at a salary of
$75.00 per month. A nition was duly made, seconded and carried that
the Maycr's appointment. of Ernest Nilson be approved.
Bond and application of Littlepa,ge and Burla for Retail Liquor
Dealers license was read. A motion was made, seconded and carried that
the City Treasuer be instructed to issue license to Littlepage and Burla
and that thier bond be approved and filed.
Bond and application of Frank Wright for retail Liquor Dealers
license was read. On motion duly made, seconded and carried the Treas.
was intructed to issue license to Frank Wright and that bond be approved
and filed.
Minutes of the City council of Laurel
Resolution No. 129 relating to the application of Riddock and
Haley for retail liquor dealers license was read. A motion was duly
made, and aecond.ed that the sr-ik9 resolution be passed and approved as
read.. Upon roll_ call the vote stood as follows;
Yes: Lamb; Davis; Dix; Hanner and Horen.
No : Jacobs.
Motion made, seconded and carried instructing the Clerk and
Treasurer to adjust School- District tax matter.
A ::notion was made, seconded and carried instructing the Chief of
Police to close the saloon conducted by Riddock and Haley.

the above bills be allowed and warrants drawn on the re-
spective funds to cover 'sa n -e.
