Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
The Council met in regular session in the Council Chamber, at the
City Hall, Laurel, Montana, and was called to order at eight (81 P. M.,
by Mayor Davis.
The following Aldermen were present at roll call; Morris, Alden,
Sande, Ahlstrom, Kenyon and Gill. The Clerk announced a quorum present.
the minutes Qf the last regular meeting were read and on motion of
Alderman Sande, seconded by Alderman .Aden a vote being taken thereon
they were declardd adopted as -read.
The report of the .City Treasurer was read and on motion of Alder-
man Kenyon seconded by Alderman Sande a #ote being taken thereon, the
report was referred to the finance committee.
The -report of the Water Commissioner was read and on motion of
Alderman Sande seconded by alderman Ahlstrom the report was referred to
-- the finance committee.
A petition signed by 77alter S. Hall, C. J. Lauman and L. G. Lauman
for sidewalk extension on the East side of Block 20 of the Laurel Realty
Second Subdivision was presented and read, and on motion by ,Aderman
Ahlstron seconded by Alderman Sande, a vote being Ahken thereon and all
Aldermen present voting "Aye" the petition was laid on the table until
such time as weather c-nditions were note favorable for the cor_structi.on
of sidewalks.
A petition signed by Walter S. Hall, C. J. Lauman and L. a. Lauman
asking for a sewer extension on Montana Avenue on the .East side of Block
1
20 of the Laure Realty Second Subdivision was read, same was referred to
the City Engineer and City Attorney.
v% C. Blackorby tendered his resignation, in writing, of the position
of Night watchman, efeective at once and on motion of alderman Alden see-
onded by Alderman Ahlstrom, a vote being taken thereon and all Aldermen

The_Special Committee on changing :he boundaries of the lards made
the following report that after a canvas of the treeitory to be included
,in the 3rd Ward as it will be when boundary is changed and in the Fourth
,,IWard as it will be created there will be One hundred Fifty (150) or more
qualified electors in each of the Wards. A I'lotion was made by Alderman
.4ande seconded by Ald-,rman Ahlstrom that the committee's report be accepted
and that the Gity Attorney prepare the necessayy Ordinance, Motion carried.

The second estimate for Improvement district No. 34, was p
presented by the of-ty Inginecr and read and on motion of alderman
Alden seconded by Alderman Ahlstrom a vote being taken thereon and all
Aldermen present voting "Aye" the estimate was declared allowed and
the Mayor and Oity Plerk were authorized to issue bonds'to cover same
as authorised by ordinance No. 191.
Ordinance No. J: =ro.viding for the receiving of bids,
awarding of-contract A.n,the method and manner of pining for im1prove-
ments in S ecial Imj-)rovem.ent 5isbrict No. 41, was in'croduced and
read. Upon motion of Alderman 2.enyon seconded by Alderman Morris
a vote was taken thereon, and said Ordinance unanimously passed and
ado :.ted.

Mr McManns was present and presented to the Gouncil for their
opinion, a proposition to furnish Natural Gas to the Gity,statinv that
he wished to have the sentiment of the Council in regard to it. �he
Council assured hin that they were heartily in favor of a move of this
kind.
Mr. Nichols of Kalman, Matteson and 'foods Bond Brokers of Minneapolis
presented a proposition to the Council with reference to a proposed Bond
issue for extension repairs to the Water systen for them -:,-to furnish the
procedure for a bond election under a contract with a guarantee bid from
themt1ioved by Alderman Sande seconded by Alderman Kenyon that this, matter
be taken under advisement, that the contract be submitted to the City
Attorney and with his approval the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized
to enter into contract with them.
Mayor Davis oresented to the Council the matter os the School board
wishing to -rent the Council Chamber for a school reom. Motion made by
Alderman Sande seconded by Alderman Kenyon, that the Clerk be instructed
to notify the school board that they could have the use of the Council
Chamber for ehhool purposed as long as they needed it, if they put in the
water and sewer connections that would be necessary if used for school
purposed.
The Mayor reccomended the appointment of Jake Keifer for Chief of
Police. A motion was made by A1derm�an Gill seconded by Alderman Morris
that the above appointment be ratified, Motiom carried.
T#e matter of moving the City Vault came up, it was stated that the
Fault could not be moved for less than 065100 by wrecking and that no one
could be fou4d who was willing to und:rtake to mave it otherwise, and it
was decided to let the Vanit stand.
A communication from Mfr. E. 0. Gates t:as read in which her offers
to rent the Jail to the City for $15.00 per month. A mot on was made by
Alderman Sande seconded by Alderman Ostrom that the Clerk be instructed
to write to Mr. Gates offering him $7.50 per month for rent of Jail,
motion cl-rried.
The subject of electric wiring came up and this matter was referred
to the City Attorney to draft an Ordinance pertaining to the creation of
the office of Electric .icing Inspector and providing for the appointment
of same by the Mayor
The following bills were presented and -read, referred to the auditing
(committee.
