August 5th, 1919.
The Council met in regular session in the Council Chambers of
the City Hall, Laurel, Montana, at 8 o'clock P.1C., and was called
to order by Mayor Davis. The following Aldermen were present at
the roll call, Kenyon, Ahlstrom, Alden, Morris and Sande. The
Clerk announced a quorum present.
Thaw minutes of the meeting held July 15th were read and on
motion of Alderman Alden, seconded by Alderman Ahlstrom, same
were approved as read.
Report of Chief of Police read; upon motion of Alderman
Kenyon, seconded by Alderman Sande, a vote being taken thereon,
the report was accepted -as read.
Report of the Treasurer was read; upon motion of
Alderman Sande, seconded by Alderman Kenyon, a vote was taken thereon,
and the report accepted as read.
Report of the Water Commissioner was read; upon motion of
Alderman Sande, seconded by Alderman Alden, a vote being taken
thereon, he report was accepted as read.
The matter of extra pay for the Pumper during the period
of time he had worked extra hours, was presented by Alderman Sande.
Loved by Alderman Sande, seconded by Alderman Kenyon, that this
matter be laid over until next meeting. Motion carried.
mr. Hill of the Warren Construction Co. came before the
Council in regard to the paving project, asking he Council to
advertise; for bids on Bitl,ulitie type of pavement as well as con-
crete. Moved by Alderman Sande., seconded by Alderman Ahlstrom,
that this matter be laid over until next meeting, pending some
,investigation. Motion carried.
Special Committee on the purchase of fire equipment made
report that they had looked over fire equipment to some extent, found
some types of trucks which were suitable for the purpose but

they had rested the deal until further action of the Council.
Mr. Donnely representing a Billings firm who handle the
Tiffin truck, appeared before he Council with an offer to lefor firer

Mr. Bosher of the International Harvester Co. appeared
before the Council making them an offer on a fire truck of a one -
ton truck, equipped for fire fighting, for $1900.00 f.o.b. Laurel,
the initial payment being the amount of the freight plus the cost
of the fire equipment, the balance to be paid with six per cent City
warrants issued on the General Fund, payable in one and two years.
Moved by Alderman Ahlstrom, seconded by Alderman Sande, that this
proposition be left to the Committee on Fire Equipment to be
reported on at the next meeting. Motion carried.
A petition signed by W.T. Wickert and other freeholders
residing in the Nutting Subdivision asking that the boundaries of the
City of Laurel be extended so as to include the said Nutting Subdivi-
sion within the corporate 14mit#s, was presented. After some
discussion of different matters that would come up with the extension
of the City boundaries, a Committee consisting of Aldermen Ahlstrom,
Sande and Morris was appointed to confer with the residents of the
Nutting Subdivision and with Mr. L. A. Nutting, and make a report
at the next meeting. Moved by Alderman Kenyon, seconded by Alderman
Ahlstrom, that the matter of the above petition be laid over until
the next meeting. Lotion carried.

Minutes of the city council of Laurel
This being the first regular meeting: of the City
Council after the expiration of fifteen days from July A,
1919, which last,named date was the date of the publication
of the notices of passage of Resolutions No. 169,;170, 171,,
172 and 1 -?3, respectively, relating to -the creation of Special
Improvement Districts Nos. 36,,37, 38, 39 and 40, r..espectiTely,.
There being one protest against the creation of Special
Improvement District No. 36, that of Nettie B. Held of
Sheridan, Wyo., and one protest against the creation -of
Special Improvement District No. 40, that of J. Kuhn, of
Holly^vood, -Calif,. Upon motionofAlderman Aiden, seconded
by Alderman Kc�nyo�Yir, a vote being

taken thereon, the protests were over ruled as bein g

Resolution No. 175 creating Special Improvement
District No. 36 was thereupon presented and read, and upon
Alderman of Aldean Kenyon, seconded by Alderman Sande, a
vote was taken thereon, and said resolution;, was` unanimously
adopted
Resolution No. 176 ,creating Special Ir' rovement
District No. 37 was thereupon presented and read, and upon
motion o.f Ald.erman .Alden, seconded by Alderman Morris, a
vote,was taken thereon, and said resolution was unanimously
adopted.
Resolution Nos 177 creating Special Improvement
District No. 38 was thereupon presented and read; and upon
motion of Alderman Ahlstrom, seconded by AldermAn Alden,
a vote was taken thereon, and said resolution was unanimously

Resolution No. 178 creating Special Improvement
District No. 39` was* thereupon, prese.nte,d and read, and upon
motion of Alderman Uorris, see-nded by Ald6rman Sande, a
vote was taken. thereon, and said reablution was 11 unanimousV
adopted.
Crdinance. No. 181 relating to the assessment of
property in Special' Improvement District No. 29, -was
introduced and' read; and upon motion of Alderman Kenyon,
seconded by Alderman Sande. a vote -was -taken thereon, and
said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.
Ordinance No. 182 relating to the assessment of
property in Special Improvement District No. 30, was
introduced and read, and upon 'motion of Alderman Morris,
seconded by Alderman Alden, a vote .was taken thereon., and'
said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.
Ordinance No. 133 relating to the assessment of
property in Special Improvement District.No. 32, was
introduced and read, andupon motion of. Alderman Ahlstrom,
seconded by Alderman Sande, a vote.was taken thereon, and`
said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.
Ordinance No,. 184 relating to the assessment of
property in Special Improvement District No. 33, was
introduced and read, and upon motion of Alderman Alden,
seconded by Alderman Kenyon, a vote was taken thereon, and
said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.
. Ordinance No. 185, relating to the assessment of
property in Special Improvement District No. 34:, was
introduced and read, and upon motion of Alderman Alden,
seconded by Alderman Morris, 8. vote was taken thereon., and
said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted...
Ordinance No. 186 relating to the assessment of
property in Special Improvement District .-No..35, ±vas
introduced and read, and upon motion of Alderman Morris,
seconded by Alderman Ahlstrom, a vote was taken thereon, and
said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.
Ordinance No. 187, an ordinance authorizing the
execution, issuance and delivery of coupon bonds in payment
for the work and improvements in Special Improvement District
No. 29 of the. City of Laurel, Vlontana,'_and describing: the
fora, the denomination and maturity dates of such bonds,
was introduced and read. Upon motion of Alderman Kenyon,
seconded by Alderman Sande, a vote was taken thereon, and
said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.

Ordinance: No. 183, an ordinance authorizing the execution,
issuance; ff delivery of coupon bonds in,payment for the work and
improvements in Special Improvement: District No. 30, of the -City
of Laurel,, Monrtana,. and describing the form, denomination and maturity
dates of such 'bonds, eras - introduced ' and read. Upon motion -of Alder-
man Sande, seconded:,by Alderman Alden,,a vote was taken thereon,
and the said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.
Ordinance No. 189, an ordinance.authorizing,the execution,
issuance and delivery -of coupon bonds in payment for the work and
improvements in Special Improvement. District No. 32, of the City
of Laurel, Montana, and -,describing the. form, denomination and maturity
dates of such bonds; was -introduced and read Upon Imotion of Alder-
man Ahlstrom, seconded by Alderman Morris, a vote was taken thereon,
and the said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.
-Ordinance, No.' 190, an -ordinance authorizing the execution,
issuance and delivery of coupon bonds in p,41,ment for the work and
improvements in Special Improvement District No. 33, of the City
of Laurel, Montana, and describing the form, denonination and maturity
dates of such bonds, was introduced and read. Upon motion of Alder-
man Morris, seconded by 'Alderman Alden, a vote was taken thereon,
and the said ordinance` unanimously ,passed and adopted.
Ordinance Na. 191," a,n ordinance .authorizing the execution,
issuance and delivery of coupon bonds in payment for the work and
improvements in Special Improvdment District No. 34, of the City
of Laurel, 1441ontana , 'and describing the form, denomination and maturity
dates of such bonds,' was introduced and read. Upon motion of Alder-
man Sande, seconded by Alderman'Ahlstrom, a -vote was taken thereon',
and the said ordinance unanimously passed and adoptdd.

man Alden, seconded by Alderman Kenyon, a vote was taken thereon,
and the said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.
Ordinance No.. 193 providing:for the receiving of bids, awarding
contract, and :the` method and manner of paying for improvements in
Special Improvement District No. 36, waq :introduced and read, and upon
motion of Alderman Kenyon., seconded by Alderman lfforris, .a vote was
taken thereon, and said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.
Ordinance No. 194: providing for the receiving of bids, awarding
contract, and the method and manner of paying for improvements in
Special Improvement District No. 37, was introduced and read, and upon
motion of Alderman Sande, seconded by Alderman Alden, a vote. was
-taken thereon, and said ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.
Ordinance No. 195 providing for the receiving of bids, awarding
contract., and the method and manner of paying for improvements in
Special Improvement District No. 38, was introduced and .read, and upon
motion of Alderman Ahlstrom, seconded by Alderman Norris, a vote `was
taken thereon, and said ordinance unanimously passed and -adopted.
Ordinance Ngo. 196 providing for the receiving of bids, awarding
contract, and the method and manner of paying for improvements in
Special Impro*ement District No: 39, was introdu-ced and read, and upon
motion of Alderman Morris, seconded by, Alderman Alden, a vote was
taken thereon, and said, ordinance unanimously passed and adopted.

The Auditing Committee reported, recoranending that the
bills be allowed with the exception of the bill of John
Aarthun for $500.00 for damages to his automobile, be
disallowed. Move -d by Alderman Alden, seconded by Alderman
Sande, that the Committee report be adopted, and the Clerk be
authorized to issue warrants for same. Motion carried.
Moved by Alderman Alden, seconded by Alderman Sande,
that we do now adjourn. Motion carried.
