Laurel, Mont,, Tboveniber 16th, 1920.
The Council met in regular session at the uouncil
Chamber at the City hall, at 8:30 p.m. and was called to order
by Mayor Davis.
At roll call the following aldermen were present;

The minutes of the meeting of November 2ndirere read
and on motion duly made, seconded and carried were approved as
read.
The clerk read a report of the Committee appointed at
the meeting of October 19th to inspect the plumbing in the bus-
iness part of the City of Laurel. This report was referred by
the Mayor to the water, Seeker and Power Committee, with a request
that a report thereon be submitted to the Council at the next reg-
ular meeting.
Estimate No. 1 showing improvements completed to date
in Special Improvement District „48 was read to the council. It
was moved and seconded that the clerk be instructed to issue
bonds in favor of the Security Bridge Co., contractors, for the
sum covered by the said estimate. Motion carried.
Mr. r. M. uurray of Billings, representing the
appeared before the Council and in-
formed them at length of the advantages of a filtration water
plant, citing as an example the plant recently installed at Hardin,

Montana, and at the same time inviting members of the Ci *yl
icial personel to join him in a trip of inspection to the Hardin
plant,
Bills were presented to the Council by T. A. xigney,
City Engineer, for engineering services in Special Improvement
District j48 for 4285,18, and Special Improvement Lighting District
?,L2 for 0300,00; and by City Attorney, W. L. A. Calder, for legal
services in Special Improvement District 48 for x'75, and special
Improvement Lighting District j2, for X116. These were referred
by the Mayor to the auditing committee, alderman Hageman being
absent, the Mayor appointed alderman Vordahl to actin his stead.
The auditing committee reported back favorably, and on motion,
duly made, seconded and carried, the Clerk was instructed to draw
warrants on the proper funds in payment thereof.
The Clerk read to the Council, Permit from the Yellow-
stone County Corimissioners to attach a new intake basin to the
east end of the central pier of the Laurel Bridge crossing the
Yellowstone river about a mile and a half south of the City of
Laurel. Permit having been received in duplicate, motion was made
that the Clerk and Mayor execute both permits, returning the copy
to the County Commissioners and filing the original along with
other City of Laurel records.
The City attorney reported having met with the N.P.
Railway Coss Eight-of-Way Commissioner, h-1r. Batson. Mr. uatson
discussed with the City Attorney, the Mayor and City Clerk, the
disposition of the controversy between the Railway Go. and the City
over the 60 foot strip of land south of brain Street, City of Laurel,
extending between zirst dv. and alder Av, The City Attorney stat-
ed that Mr. i'vatson agreed to submit to the Company, the following
propositions That the Railroad Company make to the City of Laurel
a 99 year lease, at a nominal rental, subject to the rights of the
Railroad Company, to recapture said strip for railroad purposes,
providing, however, an agreed valuation to be paid the City for
said land, or such -oart thereof, as should be retaken by the Com-
pany, with the further provision that the Company would J?at 'ire

appraised value of all improvements upon laud thus taken. The
Council thereupon instructed the Mayor, City Attorney and City
Clerk to continue the negotiations with the view of final ad-
justment.
There being no bids for the installation of the Intake
Structure for the vtater System, the Mayor appointed Alderman
Vordahl to interview persons familiar with such ounstruction
work, with t, view to securing their services for the installa-
tion of this structure.
City Treasurer, u. E. 6ettergren, having heretofore
tendered his resignation as-such City Treasurer, action upon
the same being continued at the time presented, it was moved
and seconded that the resignation of C. E. Settergren, as
Treasurer of the City of Laurel be accepted. Motion was un-
animously carried.
The Mayor then informed the Uou is it that it was their
duty to elect a City 'T'reasurer to fill the unexpired term of
G. E. Settergren. Alderman H. D. Kenyon, thereupon placed
Marguerite hiedekorn in nomination. It was then moved by Alder-
man Morris, seconded by Alderman Kenyon, that the nominations
be closed, and that the Clerk cast the ballot of the whole
Council for Marguerite t iedekorn. Upon roll call, all Aldermen
present voted "aye". The Clerk having announced that said
ballot was thus cast, the Mayor declared 1arguerite Uiedekorn
dlected as City Treasurer of the Ui.ty of Laurel. `The M- ayor
thereupon instructed the auditing committee to audit the books
of the retiring treasurer and upon the newly Elected Treasurer
taking the oath of office end furnishing the required bond, to
deliver the books and moneys and other equipment of the office
belonging to the City of Laurel, to her.
The Council discussed at length an issue of k'un.ding
Bonds to tare up all outstanding warrants. As a result of
favorable comment, the Council instructed the City Attorney
to proceed immediately with the necessary _?reliuginary legal
matter, with a view of floating such issue as soon as possible.
On motion, Council "adjourned.
