The City Council of the City of Laurel, Jen.tana, met in regular adjourned session at the Council Charmer of the City Hall and was called- to order by 1dayor Davis, at 8:20 -).m. The Clerk read the minutes of the meetings of September 7th and 21st. It was moved and seconded that the mina--es as read be a-orroved. 1E±otion carried. The water -Power committee an-moointed by the L ayor. at the meeting of September 7th, 1920, to investigate the rerluest of cer- tain property owners in block 5 and 6 in the Yellowstone 6-ib-Div- ision for an extension of the water mains along the said two blocks on '? est avenue reported recommending installation thereof. Lfter considerable discussion concerning the financing; of these new im- -orovements, the 1dayor instructed Alderman <nudsen to take u-o this phase of the matter -vvith the -;petitioners, said conference to tape place so as to permit of a report at the n6xtu regular meeting of the Council. The Mayor and the City Council instructed the 'ater Com- missioner to order immediately 20 'later Keters for the water system. The Clerk then read Resolutions 197 to 21 inclusive, _!Droviding for the levying and assessing of taxes for payment of bonds issued against Special Improvement Districts ;-26 to --39 in- clusive, -j=41, 1,=42, y=44 and the Montana Avenue Sid ti^valk. ,It was moved and seconded. that the resolutions as read e;n _sse _ and upon i roll call, all -Aldermen -oresent voted aye, and the said resolutions were declaredarse .'? The Street and Alley Corunitte and the City Engineer, who were appointed at the meeting of September 7th, 1920, to inspect the completion of improvements in District ii-Z,6, re_orted that there remained cracks in the walk to be filled. Permission was reruested by L. -r. Hanson to erect a temp- orary wooden walk along It was moved and seconded that h1r. Hanson`s reouest be granted, pro- vided the said -?LTalk be erected at his own expense and in compliance with the City Ordinance on ralks. ,; otion carried. The committee appointed by the iiiayor at the meeting of duly 20th, 1920, to confer S, ith the laurel Commercial Chamber, with the view of taking up with the T•Torthern Pacific itailway Co., the installation of some form of safety device at the railroad crossing on First Avenue, reported that they were unable to arrange for a conference with the Commercial Chamber. J Minutes of the city council of Laurel The matter of e.-Mending the ??,ridth of said crossing on First Avenue to 60 feet was discussed at length, after which the Mayor appointed Aldermen Kenyon, Vordahl, Idorris and City Engineer xigney to meet 1,iayor Davis at 4 o'clock p.m. on the afternoon of September 29th for the )urpose of determining the width of street approaching the crossing, and the possible length of the said ex- tension to be made by the Northern Pacific Railway. The Clerk was instructed to notify the owner or owners of lots immediately in the rear of the Strand Theater to remove the accumulated earth thereon. The 1,1ayor brought lip for consideration of the Council, the matter of cleaning out the irrigation ditch running north and south at the t7,Test end of to-vim. After due deliberation, this was referred by the 1vlayox° to the Ctreet and Alley Committee, with the recuest to report at the next regular meeting. The quality of service rendered by the night policeman, J. Kifer, came up for discussion. It was moved and seconded that the Clerk recuest 1dr. Pifer to be ;resent at the next regular meeting of the Council so that the nature of his duties as night _€ oliceman may be thoroughly aired. hiotion carried-. The nnestion of whether or not the contract -providing for the sprinkling of the streets about the business section of Laurel should be extended beyond 3epter_Zber30th, after considerable discussion of the matter by the Council and 11ayor, the latter in- structed the Clerk to notify Street Commissioner Bundy that for the remainder of the season, on and alter October 1, 1920, the e` ester Commissioner would advise hire vtThen fu,-'-her sprin:_ling was necessary and should be made. It was moved and seconded that the :eater Conmissioner's Salary be inc-leased X35 -;?er month, effective as' of Jctober. 1, 1920. I otion carried. On motion Council adjourned.
