The City Council of the City of Laurel, i?iontana,
met in regular session at the Council Chamber of the City
Hall, City of Laurel, and was called to order at 8:30 t.ii.

The following Aldermen were present at roll call.

The Clerk read the minutes of the meeting held on
July 20, and on motion duly made, seconded and carried, were
approved as read.
Alderman, Kenyon arrived at this time and took part
in the further deliberations of the Council.
The Clerk read a communication from Attorney Trice
requesting reconsideration by the council of the application
of iars ,vans for interest on bonds alleged to have been
delayed in being issued. The communication also referred
to an unpaid part of plumber's license fee which was taken
out by tvr. Evans, prior to his death. Can motion duly made
and seconded it was moved that this co =nicatio n be filed.

The Clerk then read communication from neese trice,
Chief of the Laurel mire .uepartment, requesting consider-
ation by the Council, with a view of allowing half the tele-
phone expenses incurred monthly, this communication was
referred to the Auditing Committee, who after due deliberat-
ion reported back recommending half the monthly telephone
bill of the Vire Chief be alloyed.
The communication from xr. Libecap, proprietor of the
Laurel iaeat ioiarket, requesting the Council to consider making
allowances for damage done to his Amonia Cooling Plant, and
viotor and pumps as the result of the water service being shut
off on the night of duly 26, was -read by the Clerk, it was
moved and seconded that the Clerk write ivir. i,ibecap, stat-
ing in part that the City had no control over the consistancy
of this service, and accordingly did not feel disposed to
consider making any allowances as requested. i}potion carried.
The duly report of the eater Commisioner was read,
this was referred back by the L?iayor to the Water Commisioner,
with a request that a corrected report be submitted at the
first meeting in 6eptember.
A letter of protest, signed by idessors. ihite, Keiser,
Deinback & .plank, requesting that the City Council take pro-
per action in curbing violations of the City apeed lavas
on the -': street, was read, after die del-
iberation-it was ??oved, secorIec- that the Street and Alley
Committee take this mater up with the County Commisioners,
with the view of effecting some form of agreeAble remedy,
Motion carried.
The monthly report of the Police Judge was read by
the Clerk, t#id was referred by the Mayor to the Auditing
Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
Committee for further verification.
Ordinance No. 217, providing for the advertising
for sale of the Hutting Bonds was read. Upon motion duly
made, seconded it was moved that this Ordinance be placed
upon its first reading, motion carried.
The City Attorney t'l. L. A. Calder, read to the
Council the lease prepared upon the order of the Council,
made at the regular meeting of the Council on duly 20,
for the leasing of the tract of ground immediately West
of the City Park, to Chas Wulff. This lease carried upon
it the approval of Aldermen, Kenyon, Bundy and brouhaugh,
the Committee appointed by the Council for that purpose.
It was then moved, seconded and carried that the action of
the Committee be approved and that the Mayor and City Clerk
execute said lease with the said Chas Wulff.
The City Attorney called the Council's attention
to the fact that the lease with the hall Lumber Co. dad
never been executed by said Com:::any. The same was referred
to the City Clerk to procure such signature, and report
same to Council at the next regular meeting.
The Clerk them presented the bills filed for the
month of July and the same were referred by the dayor
to the Auditing Committee with the direction to go Audit
the same and to make report at this meeting. After due
deliberation the Auditing Committee reported bock recom-
ending payment of the following bills

Ordinance Na. 215-B
Being an ordinance authorizing the execution and delivery
of coupon bonds in payment for the work and improvements
in Special Improvement :district No, 42-B,of the City of
Laurel, Montana, and prescribing the denomination and fo riA
and maturity dates of such bonds,was put upon its first
reading. Said ordinance was refered to the Committee on
ordinances who,after due deliberation,reported back re-
commending its passage. It was then moved and seconded
that the report of the Committee be ado pted_.and that the
unanimous consent and vote of the Council be had to plane
Ordinance No. 215-B upon its iiT?iediate -passage. Upon roll
call all Alderman present voted "AYE. It eras then moved
and seconded that ordinance No. 215-B be passed and adopt-
ed and upon roll call all Alderman present voted "AYE"
and the said ordinance was declared passed and adopted.

Ordinance No. 215A
Being anA Ordinance declaring the method of aygportioning
and spreading the assessment for the cost of improvements
in Special Improvement District -'- 42 of the City of Laurel,
Montana providing for the payment of said improvements and
put as

upon its first reading, Said ordinance was refered to the
Committee on ordinances who after due deliberation,re-
xoorted back recommending its passage. It was then moved
and seconded that the report of the Committee be adopted
and that the unanimous consent and vote of the Con t be
had to place ordinance no. 215A upon its e e passage,
upon roll call all Alderman presenu voted "AYE." be gassed
then moved and seconded that ordinance no.
and adopted and upon roll call all Alderman present v
"AYE" and the said ordinance was declared passed and adopt-
ed.

it was moved and seconded that the report of the Auditing
Committee be approved and that the Clerk be instructed to drag
warrants upon the pro )er funds in -oat's ent thereof. iuo tion
carried.
he iuayor brought up for discussion the mat ter of
increau'_ng the round i°ees from one to five -Dollars on cattle
running at large about the City. -Definite action deferred
pending the drafting of a nela ordin?L?ee by the City Attorney
relative thereto, to be submitted to the Council later.
On a motioi_ duly m<,?d.e and seconded the Clerk vras
instructed to notify C. R. Ryan, proprieter of the Laurel,
Crea,,i,aery, that he take the necessary steps to have-removed
from.? the lots next to the Anderson ileat Liarket, all refuse
still remaining after the recent fire. and also to notify
Hageter, owner of the iiag ete:r build Ong located on
1"lontana Avenue between lain and 'irst Street, Chet he :..rrange
to clean up the cumbersome properties left by the contractors
after the completion of the side wo.lk along the East front of
that building. %!otio:n carried.
The Clerk :read final estimate on the 3_uecial ''
improvement District No. 42, and estimate No. 2 on 8,Necial
Improvement District Duo. 36. and estimate on Improvement F
District No. 341 and 0. The Clerk was instructed to drays
warrants in the Jroper amounts on Districts 42 and 36. ::ti-
mate on District 34 and 37 were referred to Alderman Morris
for further verification.
The Clerk then read an estimate handed in by 1'. A.
.Rigney City Eng. covering the change of water crane, at
present located in frort of the idontana Power Company's
buildings. ':*,-!br the installation of a L?-vatory and wash room
in the City :all. After due deli#eration it was moved and
seconded that the installation of a Lavatory and wash room be
deferred and that the change of the water crane be made
immediately, same to be installed in front of the City mall
and proper installation -thereof. notion ca=-ried

Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
The matter of recodifying City Ordinances, so as to
bring them up to date was discussed. the Idayor appointed
Alderman ;{orris, Vordahl and City Eng. 111. A. as a
Committee to take the necessary erliminary steps and to report
their result at an early meeting,
