HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 04.12.1922 I TIT Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Laurel, Montana, April 12, 19220 The City Council of the City of Laurel met in an adjourned regular session at the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called to order by Mayor Frank Wright at 8:00 P. M., April 129 1922. Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered pr es ent Vordahl Bundy Clark Hageman Kenyon Knudsen Richardson Sausman The minutes of the regular meeting of March 21st, special meeting of Larch 28th and regular meeting of April 4, 1922, were read and approved. The reports of the Library Board, City Treasurer, Police Judge, Chief of Police, City Clerk and Water Commis- sioner were read and approved. Mr. Crinde, representative of the Avery Company, appeared before the Council in an effort to sell a road ma- chine which he had demonstrated in the afternoon to the City. He described the working of the road-razor and presented a number of testimonials from public officials and stated he would: ship a machine to the City on approval for ol'750,00. After some discussion as to the financial conditions exist- ing at this time, it was moved and seconded that his offer be rejected. The motion carried. This being the time for a canvass of the election returns for the regular C'ty election of April 39 1922, the Mayor appointed Aldermen ? Bundy and Richardson as tellers for making the count. he Committee named, pro- ceeded with the count of ballots and reported back the votes as follows: Aldermen First Ward: B. L. Knudsen 40 tr It was then moved and seconded that the report of the Com- mittee be adopted and that the Aldermen be declared elect- ed as follows; Minutes of the City Council of Laurel B• L. Price--Alde:xman First Ward. B• B. Hagemen--Alderman Second Ward. 0. 1. Told--Alde-rraan Third Ward. H. C. Znndsen--Alderman Fourth Ward, The motion carried, The Clerk read a comunication from Geo. W!• Mikels in regard to dog license charge. Mr. Tenyon stated that he would have Mikels dispose of the dog in order to avoid fur- ther.dispute in the matter. A surety bond in the amount of $500.00 for the Mont- ana Power Company for the faithful performance of their eon- tract awarded to them on the 7th day of February, 1922, siglidd by D• H. McCaulley and J. F. MacDonald, was presented and read. It was moved and seconded that the bond be accepted. The mo t ion carried. A form of contract from the E. T. Barnum Iron Works for the doors and window grating was read in which they speci- fied spot cash. The City Clerk was instructed to write them that all bills were paid in warrants and to write the Billings Foundry Company for prices. A petition for the construction of a water main on West Avenue, between South Second Street and South Fourth Street, was presented, A number of the property holders ap- peared and expressed their eagerness to have this line con-- structed. It was moved and seconded that the City Clerk and City Attorney be instructed to draw proper resolutions for the creation of a distrietr:to supply them and to have reso- lutions ready for the next regular meeting. The motion carried. It was moved and seconded that resolutions', for the creation of a, sewer district, running through Blocks!, 1, 2, 3, 14, and 15 of the Nutting Subdivision, connecting onto the present sewer, be drawn for the next regular meeting', of the City Council, The motion carried. A petition from Q. D. Brackney, proprietor of the Brackney Motor Supplies, for the installation of a gasoline storage tank and pump head in the street in front of his place of business at 409 Main Street, also to extend one section of concrete walk 51 wide, UP beyond the present sidewalk, It was moved and seconded that such a permit be granted. The motion carried. The Clerk reported that Mr. Mooney had declined to act as gas inspector, but Mr. Smith, an employee of the gas company, had consented to do the inspection free. No. 246, being a resolution of intention to create Special Improvement District No. 50 of the City of Laurel, Montana, for the construction of a 511 sidewalk in the - eastern portion of the City, was presented anal read.After A l'b t'o 't s of d to the Commtittee on Streets upon, the Mayor appointed him as gas inspector, It was. moved d and seconded that the appaintment be approved. The motion carried. The Sewer Cornrissioner reported that C. W.i Laird had made a request to tap in the trunk line ze-wer on property on which he is now building in Block 3, East Laurel baubdivi sign. It was moved and seconded that the matter be (referred to the Committee on Sewer for disposal, The motion carried. RESOLUTION NO 246 some a ? -era in, Z via r erne , and Alleys who reported back recommending the passage of said resolution. It was moved and seconded that the report of the Committee be adopted and that the unanimous consent and vote of the Council be had to -place Resolution No, 246 on its im- mediate passage. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted "Aye". It -was then moved and seconded that Resolution No. 246 be passed and adopted. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present 4 ? i r voted "Aye" and said Resolution No. 246 was declared passed and adopted.
