HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Minutes 03.21.1922Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Laurel, Montana, I' March 219 19220 The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber at the City Hall and was called to order by Mayor Frank Wright at 8:00 P. M., March 21,1922. Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present: Vor Bahl Bundy Clark Hageman. Kenyon Knudsen. Richardson 1 The minutes of the regular meeting of March 'nth were ..m. read and approved. - The City Attorney presented a lease drawn in favor of - the Continental Oil Company for a period of twenty (20) years for the premises now occupied by the Wulff Filling Station. Mr. Wulff appeared and stated that he was closing a deal with them for the building and would.relinquish his right to the premises providing the City made a contract with the Continental Oil Com- pany, It was moved and seconded that the Mayor and City Clerk enter into a contract with them. The motion carried. Alderman Sausman arrived at this time and participated in all further actions of the Council. ORDINANCE NO. 235. Ordinance No. 235, being an ordinance relating to the annual appropriation for the fiscal year 1922, was presented and read. After due deliberation, it was referred to the Finance Committee for report at the next regular meeting. RESOLUTIONS NOS. 2491_2439' 244 and 245. Resolutions Nos. 242, 243, 244 and 245, being,<reso- lutions for transferring funds, were p,resen.ted and read. After F some discussion, they were referred to the Finance Committee mho recommended back the immediate passage of each of the resolutions referred' to:. It was moved and seconded that the report of the committee be adopted and the unanimous consent and vote of the Council be had to place them upon their immediate passage, Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted "Aye". It was then moved and seconded that the Resolutions Nos. 242, 2439 2442 245 be passed and adopted and -upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted. 'AyAl3 and said resolutions were declared passed and adopted. The Clerk was instructed to have printed a notice in regard to furnishing tree-line for the property owners wishing to plant trees in the parking. The Mayor reported that in the meeting held with the County Commissioners the previous week in which all 06-Cu oilmen. were present, the Board of County Commissioners had agreed to pay 50% of the cost of a jail not to exceed $1500.00 total cost. It was moved and seconded that this report be placed in the minutes for future reference. The motion carried. It was moved and seconded that the City Clerk be in- 11 structed to advertise for bids for the construction of a jail I approximately 151 x 151 to be constructed of hollow tile, brick and concrete construction or concrete consturction alone. The motion carried. T, Reference was made to the size of the Fire DepartM-nt and the City Attorney was instructed to report at the next regular meeting if it was necessary, under the Statutes or re-- ' -- gulat ions, to have fifteen (15) members in the Volunteer Fire Department, a I 7 I I i I I i Minutes of the Citv Council of Laurel This being the time for selecting the voting places for the different wards and the clerks and judges for the elec- tion to be held April 3rd, the following places were designated as voting places for the respective wards: First Ward:, Mrs. Erb's Residence. Second Ward: City Hall. Third Ward: Hall Lumber Company, Fourth Ward:' N. P. Hotel. The following named persons were selected as Clerks and Judges in the respective Wards: First Ward: Clerks Judges Scott Lyons Mrs. H. A, Bundy Tom Lynch Mrs. A. S. Erb Mrs. C. W. Laird Second Ward: Mrs. B. McNeill Mrs. 0, A, Brohaugh bb?s. R. C. Roach Mrs. T. J. Click Mrs. J. T. Edwards Third Ward: Mrs. W J. Arnold. Dirs. Chas, Clark Mrs. W. T. Saunders Mrs. J. H..Jordan Mrs. H. T. White Fourth Ward: Mrs. J. H. Lambert Mrs. A. C. Gelineau Mrs, John Kinnick Mrs. D, R. Hopkins J. W. Smith It was moved and seconded that the Mayor replace 0. C. Bundy on the Police Force, The motion carried. The City Attorney was instructed to inform the Council at the next regular meeting if it would affect t State Firemen's Disability Fund if the number should be reduced. The Mayor was requested to confer with the Fire Chief and see if a reductior in the force would be advisable. It was moved and seconded that we do now adjourn. The mot ion carried.
