Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chamber at the City Hall and was called to order by Mayor Frank Wright at 8:00 P. M. February 21, . 1922. Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present: Vo r dahl Bundy Clark Hageman. Knudsen Kenyon Richardson El! a Sausman The minutes of the regular meeting of February 7th were read. After some discussion as to the amount of bond to be requir- ed by the Montana Power Company or the contract awarded at the re- gular meeting of February 7th, it was moved by Councilman. Vordahl and seconded by Councilman Sausman that the reference to the amotant of bond for the Montana Power Company be corrected to read "to the amount of Five Hundred and no/100 (;500.00) Dollars". The motion carried. A petition, signed by P. J. hfisdden, M. 0. Pewitt, A. J. Johnson and Ira Sullivan, was read. After some discussion, it was referred to the Committee on Light and Water for a report at the next regular meeting. ORDINANCE NO. 234. Ordinance No. 234, being an ordinance excluding certain lots from the fire limits within the City, was read. After some discussion, it was referred to the Committee on Fire and Police who reported back recommending the immediate passage of said ord- nance. It was moved and seconded that the report of the Committee be adopted and that the unanimous consent and vote of the Council be had to place Ordinance No. 234 upon its immediate passage. Upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted "Aye"... It was then moved and seconded that Ordinance No. 234 be passed and adopted and upon roll call, all Aldermen present voted "Aye", and said Ordinance was de- clared passed and adopted. The Clerk read a, communication from the First National Bank of Columbus, Ohio, in regard to Special Improvement District bonds held by them. City Attorney, A.- B. Garvey. reported that the Settergren case, effecting the respread in Special Improvement District No. 3 and others, had been thrown out of court and exgss ea his opinion in regard to a settlement with the plaintiff if it were satisfactory to the Council to avoid them taking it to the Supreme Court. Approval of this action was generally expressed and he was directed to make such a settlement. The Clerk was then instructed to inform the bond holders of the action relative to these bonds. A letter from J. D. Watson, Right-of-way Commissioner for the Northern Pacific Railway Company in regard to crossings within the City, was read. After some discussion, the.City Engineer and City Attorney were instructed to confer with Mr, Vordah.l in reply- ing to his communication and to arrange to have crossing establish- ed to coincide with the center line of First Avenue South at the main line crossing and crossing on the Rocky Fork Branch and to have street crossing eRtablish.ed on the extension of Fifth Avenue. A letter from the Guernsey Newton Company in regard to renewal of accident policy for the-fire Department was read. It was moved by Councilman Kenyon and geconded by Councilman Bundy that the Treasurer be instructed to have the policy referred.to renewed. The motion carried. The vacancy in the office of-Police Judged caused by the death of Judge Hudson, was discussed. it was moved by Alder- man Knudsen and seconded by Alderman Vordahl that the salary of the :police Judge be fixed at $25.00 per month. The motion carried. Minutes of the City Council of Laurel election of Hillis White. Upon roll call, all Aldexmen present voted "Aye" except Bundy who voted "No", The Mayor stated that nominations for a Police Judge were now in order, Thereupon, Councilman Vordahl nominated Hillis T White for the position. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Hagermn. Councilman Bundy 'nominated H. L. Richardson, The nomi- nation was seconded by Councilman Knudsen, It was then moved and seconded that nominations be closed and a ballot be taken on th.e` It was moved and seconded that we do now adjourn.
