The City Council of the City of Laurel not in regular session at the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called to order by MAyor rank Wright at 8:00 P, H,, January 17, 1922. Upon roll call, the followi ng Aldermen answered present: Vo rdahl Bundy Clark Hageman Knudsen Kenyon Richardson S ausman W The minutes of the regular meeting of January 3, 1922, and the minutes of a special meeting of January 5, 1922, were read and approved. N, Neil Baird, agent for the northern Pacific Railway Company, appeared before the Council and asked permission to re- -move the lamp at the crossing on First Avenue which was install- ed at the direction of the City Council by the railway company before the present lighting system was installed. It was moved by Alderman Knudsen and seconded by Aldexman dark that the re guest be granted and the Clerk be instructed to write the agent to that effect. The motion carried, Mr. Coy, local manager for the Mountain States Tele phone and Telegraph Company, appeared before the Council to see if an adjustment could be made in the license fee of his company, He suggested the different items of. service they were rendering to the City, expressing his opinion that in lieu of these ser- vices rendered that he thought he fee exorbitant. After a dis- cussion at length, it was moved by Alderman Knudsen and seconded by Alderman Richardson that a committee be appointed to confer with Mx. Coy and if possible to establish the an.ount of services rendered the City and to make a report at the next regular meet- ing. The motion carried, The Mayor appointed Kenyon, Knudsen and Hageman..on this committee h"Ir. Mooney, local manager for the gas company, appear- ed with recommendations for additional paragraphs in the gas ordinance as it had been written, The Clerk and City Attorney were instructed to embody his suggestions in the o dinance which would be acted upon at the next meeting, The ;Street and Alley Committee, tnich had been instruct- ed to pass on the petition of the Davis Transfer and Storage Com- pany to erect a sign near the depot, reported that they were not { in favor of signs being c rostructed within the City,. It was moved and. seconded- that the report of the Committee be adopted and the Clerk be inst°racted to notify the Davis Transfer and l Storage Company to that effect. The -motion carried.. The Mayor reported that he had chosen members for the ? Examining and. Trial Board of the Police Department under the pro- visions of Section 697 of the,hevised Ordinances of the City of J' Laurel and nominated F, C, Se4eidecker, .C, L. Morris and I. C. .Alpaugh. It was moved and seconded that t he appo intments_` be ratified, the motion carried, Alderman Richardson reported that the cabaret perform- ance in the Fuller Cafe had been conducted disorderly and moved that the music be discontinued at 1:00 A. M. and all dancing discontinued immediately. The motion was seconded by Alderman Kenyon. The Water Commissioner was instructed to have the crane returned to Laurel for future installation., The Clerk read a letter from to Clerk o f School leis triet No.. 7 in which he stated the Trustees had refused to pay the balance due on their sewer contract as the property was'. now in the hands of Co l3. It was moved and seconded that the City Clerk be instructed" to have said notice published in accordance with the Revised Ordinances of the City of Laurel. The City Engineer presented plans and speeif icat ions II for a City jail and after some discussion: as to a suitable lo- cation, it was decided to defer action to a future date. The City Clerk reported that the Outlook was holding some unbound ordinances pending instructions for b riding. Coon- ci man 8ausman, who was chairman: of the Ordinance Committee at t o `°t- e lof publication, stated that he vDuld go doff n. and malee the selection for covers within the :next creek. It was moved and seconded that we do now adjourn.
