The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular session in the Council Chambers in the City Hall and was called to order by Mayor H. A. Carlisle at 8:00 o'clock P. M., October 2, 1923, Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present: Price Hageman Nicola Perm Coy The minutes of September 4th were read and approved. The report of the Chief of Police was read. It was moved by Nicola.. and seconded by Price that the report be ap- proved as read. The motion carried. The report of the City Treasurer for the period from duly 14th to September 30th was read. It was moved by Price and seconded by Nicola that the report be approved as read. The motion carried. The bills-for the month of September were presented and were by the Mayor referred to the Finance Committee who retired for audit and report on same. The Committee, after due deliberation, reported back to the Council recommending that the following bills be paid :and that ^.varrants be drawn tap-on the proper funds in payment of the same: Wickham Bros. & Schwieoer $1703.60 Mont. Power Co. $522.02 City Water Dept. 38.23 C. W. Waltrip 10.00 J. S. Brohaugh 250.00 YTstone Garage 11.55 Vera Sturm - 110.00 A. D. Wallizer 1.00 T. A. Rigney 158.35 M. S. T. & -T. Co. 11.00 Henry Kaiser 120.63 Billings Gas Co. 4.00 City Water Dept. 24.79 Crane Co. 9.13 Hugh Miller 53.50 The Committee further reported approval of the following bills with the recommendation that the same be conditionally allowed and that the Clerk be authorized to draw warrants upon the proper funds in payment of the same as soon as the money is available for the payment thereof, but not otherwise: . -% 0. Early 50.00 " A L, Garvey 41.65 It was moved and seconded that the report of "the Finance Committee be adopted and the warrants be issued in payment in the manner recommended by the Committee. The motion carried. Dr. D. H. McCauley appeared before the Council and requested some improvements made in the alley in the rear of the Sencer-McCauley building in Block 1, Laurel Realty Sub- division. After a lengthy discussion, it was moved by Price and seconded by Nicola that the engineer be instructed to survey the alley and make re comrnendat ions at the next regular meeting of the City Council. The motion carried. In accordance with the requests of the City Council, Turner H. Early, City Treasurer, presented the bonds for the American Bank to the City Treasurer for the City Council's ap- proval, After some discussion of the X10, OOO surety bond, it was moved by Nicola and seconded by Perry that the Treasurer have them corrected in accordance with the State Examiner's report of April 271 1922. The motion carried. After some discussion of the Liberty Bond receipt for the balance of the American Bank bond, it was moved by Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Laurel, Viontana, October 2, 1923. Price and seconded by Perry that the City Treasurer request that receipts be made direct to the City Treasurer rather than to the bank. The motion carried. A petition by S.. 4V7. ZaBar for the erection of a sign south of the Tourist Park on vacant land was presented and read. It was moved by Nicola and seconded by Coy that the City Clerk be instructed to notify Mr. LaBar that the Council had no obr j ect ion that the sign be erected so long as it did not obstruct vision at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Main Street.
