Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular
session in the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called
to order by Mayor H. A. Carlisle at 8:00 P. M., June 5, 1923.
Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered
present:

The report of the Police Judge was read and approved.
The bills for the month of May were referred to the
Committee on Finance and after due deliberation, the Committee
reported back recommending the payment of the following bills:

Dr. R. Broughton 345.00
A bill from the American Bank for insurance on the City Hall
was rejected on account of a policy having been issued by E. L.
Fenton. It was moved and seconded that the report of the Co.-
mittee be adopted and the Clerk be instructed to draw warrants
upon the proper funds in payment of the bills allowed. The
motion carried.
The question of bonding the City for the installation
of cast iron mains and a settling basin was discussed. Mr.
Shellgard, representing Crosby-Me.Connell &c Co. and Stern Brothers,
suggested that inasmuch as a number of bond men were present that
each submit' a.`.proposition for handling the proceedings for the
bond issue. It was moved and seconded that the bond men proceed
to-"file wirtten propositions to the Councilp The motion carried.
After reading the propositions submitted, in which, Mir. Shellgard.,
%dr. Welsh, Mir. Brubeck_ and C. J. Williams participated, it was
moved and seconded that the proposition of 1.1r. Shellgard for
Crosby-McConnell & Co. of Denver and Stern Brothers of Kansas

City, Missouri, in which they offered to handle the legal
proceedings for 1 3/8% of the total amount of bond issue,
said amount being rebated and to bid not less than par for
6% bonds, providing their bid for not less than par be accepted.
The motion carried.
A proposition from Wallace and Tiernan Co. of New York
was read in which they offered to install a duplicate chlorinator
for the city ptImp station for S500,00, less 5% discount. It was
moved and seconded that the proposition be filed. The motion
carried.
After some discussion of the irrigation ditch on Alder
.Avenue, it was moved and seconded that the Mayor appoint a
committee to investigate the matter and make a report at the
next regular meeting of the City Council. The motion carried.
thereupon, the Mayor appointed H. C. Knudsen, J. F1 Nicola and
the City Engineer.
It was moved and seconded that we do now adjourn. The
motion carried.
