Chamber in the City Hall and was called: to order by Mayor Frank Wright at 800 P. M. January 2, 1923. The bills for the mo nth of December were referred to the Committee on Finance who r eported back recommending the payment of the 'follo wing bills : C. A. I It was moved and seconded that the report- of the Committee be adopted and the .Clerk be instructed to draw warrau.ts upon the proper finds in t f 4- 1, b ' lls allowed The motion carried. it paymen o e 1 The reports of the Chief of Police, Police Judge and Water Commissioner were read and apprpvejd. A statement from the State Highway Commission of .Federal Aid Project No. 57, Speeial.Improvement District No. 53, was read in which they showed a balance of $11,818.08 on ? hand. The Clerk was instructed to write' the State Highway Commission and request payment of that amount. A committee headed by Torn Hard appeared to protest on the failure of the City to prevent a riot on the 28th day of November,. 1922, and failure toprosecute the men who par- ticipated in it. J. F. Nicola, D. 00 Glass, M. J. Harrison., J. if. Cusick and W, E. Parter spoke on the subject. The Mayor stated that he knew nothing of the riot until after it had happened. The City Attorney informed them that the case, could only be handled in the District Court. I, Minutes -of the City Council of Laurel It was moved and seconded that we do note adjourn.
