The City Council of the City of Laurel met in adjourned
regular session in the Council Chamber in the City Fall and was
called to order by Ialayor :d. A. Carlisle at 8:00 O'clock P. 11.
August 27, 19240
Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered
present;
Wold
Nicola
Porter
Perry
ribecap
Idiss Sturm, City Treasurer, appeared before the
Council and stated that the deposit now on hand in the
Iviidland National :Bank was under ?pI5,000,00 and that the "bank
had proposed to deliver liberty Bonds in the amount of
X15,000,00 in lieu of Treasurer's Certificates. receipts now
held by the City Treasurer. It was moved by Told and seconded
by ITicola that this form of bond be approved. The motion
carri e d.
I-i iss Sturm stated that the i.Iidland T"ational Bank
had offered a safety deposit box free for the safekeepingoof
the bonds and requested instructions in regard to placing At
there or the safety deposit box in the mi erican: Bank. After
some discussion, it was ,decided to leave, it to her discretion.
A surety bond for X10,000.00 of the Maryland Casualty
Company for Vera Sturm, City Treasurer and an extension on a
;;5,000.00 bond of T. A. Rign.ey, City Clerk and Mater Commissioner,
were presented and read. It was moved by Libecap and seconded
by 'Mold that the bonds be approved. The motion carried.
111he contract and bond of J. J, Burley for construction
of water mains in Special Improvement :District Now-62 was pre-
sented and read. It was moved by 'Nicola and seconded by Told
that the contract and bond be approved. The motion carried.:

Ordinance No, 276, providing a penalty for non-
payment of license, No, 2241, and ordered inserted directly
following 224, was presented and read. It was moved by
Wold and seconded by Perry that the unanimous consent and
vote of the Councilbe had to place Ordinance No. 276 upon
its immediate passage, Upon roll call, all Aldermen present
voted aye. It was moved by Vdbld and seconded by Perry that
Ordinance No, ' 276 be passed and adopted. Upon roll call,
all Aldermen present voted aye and said Ordinance was declared
passed and adopted.
FE'SOLUTIONS NOS. 307-308-309-
Resolutiorisko, 307, for righting District No, 19
No. 308 for righting :district No. 2, No. 309_ .Tor removal of
Garbage., were presented for final passage. Ohe Clerk pro-
duced proof of publication in the Laurel Outlook and informed
the City Council that no protests had been received. It was
moved by Alderman .-lold and seconded by Alderman Perry that
final passage and approval of these resolutions be made.
U,?on roll call, all Aldermen present voted aye. T'hereu-pon
the Mayor declared Resolutions Nod.. 307- 308 and 309 fd Tally
passed and adopted.
<SOi UTION N0, 310.
Resolution No, 310, being 'a Resolution levying and
assessing a special tax against property herein described for
tapping into the water mains of the City of Laurel, idontana,
not included in any special improvement district was presented
for final passage. The Clerk produced proof of publication in
the Laurel outlook and stated that no protests had been re-
ceived, It was moved by Alderman Mold and seconded by Alderman

Perry that Resolution - o. 310 be finally passed and adopted.
Lkon roll call, all Alderfllen present voted aye and said
resolution was declared finally passed and adopted.
The Clerk stated that he had received protests from
Verne Johnson for the furnishing of election supplies and
Val Lechner for the work on tar books for nonpayment of their
clams. after some discussion, it was roved by ivicola and
seconded by Libecap that the claims referred to be paid fronl
the Dperatin.S und.. The ?notion carried„
The Clerk reported that Attorney 3. L. Price had
reouested action on the petition for closing a part of
Second Street. It was moved by -fold and seconded by Perry
that the City Clerk and City attorney be instructed to co-
operate .,dth i r.Price in completing proceedure, including
publication of notice in the Laurel Outlook. The motion
carri ed.
