May 209 1924.
The City Council of the City of Laurel met in regular
session in the Council Chamber in the City Hall and was called to
order by Mayor H. A, Carlisle at 8:00 ofclock P. M, May 20, 1924,
Upon roll call, the following Aldermen answered present:
Gum
Graves
Porter
Nicola
Ferry
Wod
The minutes of April lat. April 14th and May 6th were
read and approved.
This being the time set for receiving bids for the
materials for the settling basin, the Clerk was instructed to
open and read the bids submitted. The bids were as follows;

It Was moved by Wold and seconded by Gum that the Mayor appoint
a committee to consider the bids submitted. The motion carried,
Thereupon the Mayor app(? .ted Wold, Perry and Graves, The Com-
mitteo retired to the Gierkt s office to make comparison of the
bids submitted, The committee reported back and recommended
the purchase of the following materials from the lowest b ide rs
Haamea Lbr, Co* 2500 feet of 2 x 4 twelve foot lengths
common and 5500 feet of eight inch shiplap for 252.00
Thompson Yards 1200 barrels Portland cement for 4380.00
Grant Smith Co. 800 yards of crushed and washed
gravel @ $1.75 per yard, F, 0. B. cars, at Laurel.
The Texas Co, 27,000 -pounds Asphalt for 596.70
It was moved and seconded that the report of the committee be
adopted and that the Mayor aad City Clerk be instructed to enter
into contract for the purchase of the materials in accordance with
the recommendation of the committee. The motion carried.
Mr, E. L, Fenton submitted a bill for insurance on the.
fire truck anA hose in the amount of 50*80 for a policy of
$2000,00. It was moved by Weald and seconded by Gum that the
Committee on Fire and police investigat* and See, if it would be

necessary to insure the equipment. The motion carried„
A committee which had been appointed at a- previous
meeting to report on the petition of Reese Price for closing
that part of 4po9nd Street between the City Hall and First
Avenzte reported recommending that it be closed, proTu ng, Mr.
Price would pay the Oita the price of 175,40 for the side walk
which the City has already constra.cted It was moved and seconded
that the report of the committee be adopted and that the City
Attorney be instructed to cooperate with Mr. Price; s ettorney
in drawing suitable legal papers for the c to s ing . of the whole,
street between. First and Second Avenues. The motion carried.
A petition by residents of the First Ward for the re-
moval of what was known as the old K. Cs Barr, now located on
Tats 11 to lei itt Block 4, East Laurel Subdivislon., was read.
After some discussion as to what could be done with this nuisance,
it was moved and seconded that the petition be tabled for the
present, The motion carried
A petition for the construction of water mains on
Mains Street was read. It was moved by Weld and seconded b
Perry that tbe? City Attorney and. City Engineer be instructed
to prepare neeessexY opera and estimates for action at the
next regular meeting of the City Council.. The motion carried.
.A. report of the City Engineer. in regard to pumping
water for the Northern Pac3ifia Railway Company was presented
and read in which a`price of a 2/ per thousand gallons be
made with p. 10,000,000 ga-11on minimum per month, The chairman
°of the water eommitte _stated that that was in accordance with
their findings on the subject. It was moved by Weld and seconded
by Perry that the City submit a proposition-on that basis. The
motion carried.
A bill fora art of the engineering fees. on then-,water
works in the amount of $1650.04 to be eredited- to the Executive
Fund was presented. It *was moved and 'seconded that the bill be

allowed. The motion. Carr ed;p
The Mayor called the Ceunoills attention to the condition
of the road to pump house, some bad dressings and drains, also
stated that the filter bed of the sewer system had been reported
in bad order and requested the Committee on Sewers to investigate
and make a recommendation as to what would be necessary to do.
After some discussion in, regard to the City Treasurer's
reports and work, it was moved and seconded that a committee be
appointed to interview Cdr. Early and see what arrangements were
being; made for the completion of the work and to ascertain if he
would be.able to do the work on account of holding a job ih
Billings. The motion carried. Thereupon, the Mayor appointed
Fold, Perry and Porter and requested them to interview him as
early as possible.
It was 'moored and seconded that we do now adjourn. The
motion carried,
